AM: 4 mile shake out with Papa Heaps and Thom with some strides at the end.
PM: Arcadia Invitational Seeded 3200 meter. Warmed up with Ryan. We got 2.5 which was really good. Felt ready to go. I planned on going out towards the back. I did. I figured the race would go out fast and I just wanted to work my way up. It didn't go out extremely slow but it was slower and then stayed pretty consistent over the entire race. And I did end up moving well in the race. It just all ended up coming in the last 400 mostly lol.
I wore my watch and lapped it each lap so I could have my splits. 68.9-70.1-70.8-68.9-70.1-69.0-68.3-didn't get that one but the Lone Peak coach had me at a 61 and my dad had me at a 61.03. So I finished with an official time of 9:07.59. My previous best was from this meet last year of 9:27 so it was a pr by about 20 seconds (19 and change if you want to get technical) Since it went out slower and Arcadia has so many entries so there are 30 guys in the race, it was super packed and I spent a ton of energy moving around from lane one to two. I was trying to stay on the inside but the other guys wouldn't stay in the same position, they kept cutting back and forth so I didn't want to get boxed in and cut off, it was weird. Another weird thing. At the 200 meter point on the track there was a giant puddle. It was wet everywhere else but there it was inches deep and everybody was soaked lol.
So um ya I just tried to stay consistent and keep with the pack. I think the big part of my race was in lap 7, I made a good surge to get in a better position for my final kick. And you can see it in my splits. The 7th lap was my second fastest according to my watch. So then with 400 to go, my mind was ready to throw down and start going it was just if my body would go with it. And thank goodness my legs felt great. A guy in an orange and black jersey I didn't know, he started moving so I latched onto him for the curve and then started moving. Got going really well on the back straight and passed a lot of the pack. With 200 meters to go I realized I went from like 4th to last a little earlier to 5th and top 5 get medals and a medal in the seeded would be so sick so I tried to not get passed. I went by both the Odgen kids and Dylan Scarsone my friend from footlocker and finished 2nd! It was better than I ever thought I could have done. With outdoor not having gone that great so far leading up it was the race I needed. And I know the times are fast cuz sea level, but compared to the competition we did awesome in the 4x16 and the 32 was great.
Shout out to Thomas for running an awesome 32 and getting 9:27, keeping up with what I did last year. Shout out to Ryan for doing alright I guess I'm the 32 ;) lol 9:14s aight for a sophomore haha
