Today I ran the mile and the 800 at the byu indoor invitational. I didn't get a chance to warm up for the mile because I got there late, so I did the best I could to stay loose and just told myself to go out and do the best I could. I lead the first lap, and that was a really weird feeling because till sophomore year a big struggle for me was getting a good start. But after the first lap the faster guys took the reins and I fell all the way back to like 7th lol. I settled down into a good pace and the race went by surprisingly fast. The last 200 I had a good kick and passed three guys. I came across in 4:44 which is funny because that is the exact time I signed up with. Before I ran I thought I should have put in a slower time, but I ended up getting it and I'm way happy because its only 4 seconds off a pr and indoor just started.
After a few hours of recovery I did the 800. My legs felt like jello so I was not sure how this was gonna go. I was seeded last and I was tired so I just stuck at the back of the pack the majority of the race and kicked hard at the end. I got 2:10, which is awesome because I haven't been training long, I had already run the mile, and I ran 10 miles the day before so I feel very excited for the rest of the season.
Shout out to my boys Adam Jensen, Thomas Heaps, and Garek Beiklyahy (or something like that). Adam was in my heat of the mile and 800 and he beat me by a pretty good margin in both! Thomas was in an alright position in thelast lap of the mile but had a nice kick to pass a few people and end with a 4:47, but nobody could get even close to the kick of GAREK B!!!!!!! After already running a 4:28 he was running the 800, and he was in 9th place with one lap to go. He turned it to cruise control and passed 5 guys finishing in 4th place in the final heat! finishing in a 2:02! A FREAKING 2:02! Oh and we have just recieved breaking news.........Garek has in fact won the 2 mile in a time of 9:52, what can this kid not do! Garek you are my idol. Oh and shout out to Kaysha Love who won the 60 meter dash just for me, and to Lucy Biles who I beat her 800 pr today, ya thats right Lucy.
