Running Accomplishments:

Pre-high school: I ran a lot of local 5ks and a few half marathons.  I didn't do a ton of training, but I just had fun, and I got more serious about it as high school got closer.

High school: I enjoyed running a lot, especially cross country.  I originally did track to keep my in shape for cross country.  I ran at Footlocker Nationals, the Adidas Dream mile, Brooks PR Invitational, world xc junior championships, and a few local 5ks. 

PRs: 800: 1:56.80-State Track 2014

1600: 4:10-State Track 2014/Mile: Sea Level-Adidas Grand Prix-4:07

3200:Alititude(~4500ft): 8:57.99-State Track 2014-2 Mile:8:53 at Brooks PR Invitational

Personal:

Served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints from July 2015-July 2017.  I gained 30 lbs. during the service and came back out of shape; however I knew that if the Lord wanted me to once again run competitively, he would bless me to return to fitness. 

I graduated from Sky View High School in Smithfield, Utah. I currently run for Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah.

        XC-5.5 Today we did our hardest workout of the season.  I don't think this will be our last time doing it either.  We did 10XBeast (a 290m steep hill that gains 80 feet from bottom to top) repeats, with recovery back down to the bottom of the hill.  I ran all of them with Tyson.  I think he only beat my twice, but I don't know if he was going all out for them.  I felt as good as you can on the first few repeats, especially on the fourth, but after that it hurt just as much as usual.  During the 7th one I was soo tired, and coach had Alex and Brayden run this one with us.  Well I gave up almost when that one started.  Brayden shot passed Tyson and me, and Tyson went with him.  I just couldn't get to the top.  After the 10th one I dry heaved a few times, and just had problems staying on my feet.  We ran a cool down back to the school. 

        PM-5 easy miles.  I felt pretty tired from the beast repeats.

      Met up with Brian at Green Canyon.  We went on a trail up there and he was going to show me a new one they had been doing construction with last year, but of course, since we're in Utah, they were still doing construction on it (I didn't know you needed construction on a trail).  I felt really sore, and my hamstrings hurt afterward, but felt good during the run.  We also worked on some breathing techniques that I'm going to try later.

    I'm going to be at the Nike elite running camp these next few days, so I don't think I'll be able write anything until Sunday.  Good luck with your Deseret News races everybody! I'm excited to see how everyone does.

       10.5 around Oregon, at around 6:45 pace is what someone said.  .5 on a treadmill/down a hall.

        8 on a Leif Erickson Trail at 6:10 pace approximately.  It felt pretty easy at sea-level.

    Track workout with all the guys on the Michael Johnson track.  Jerry Shoemaker made our workout and was calling out our splits, so that was way sweet.  Our average pace with the repeats and recovery was 5:12 for the 3 miles.  1 mile cool down.

      AM-We did some pool running today.  I felt really sore from the core we were put through the last few days.  

      PM/Race-We did the Bowerman 5k, which was just around the campus twice.  I planned on racing it even though we had hard workouts the last few days, and we even did that pool running.  None of the other campers planned on racing it besides Estaven.  I warmed up 2.5 miles with Aaron, Noah, and Obsa.  Aaron said he would tempo the race or go 5:30s until the last mile and then try to run a 4:30.  The race went out pretty fast.   I was right between the chase pack/lead "pack"(a long string of guys with some Africans leading the way) for the first half mile.  People were passing me, but I felt pretty good.  We hit the mile mark, and Nick "Biebs" passed me.  I asked him what our time was and he said 4:46.  He encouraged Estaven and me to keep pushing it.  I slowed down a bunch, but Estaven kept up the pace.  I just ran in a sort of no-mans-land for most of the race after that.  On the second loop around the 2 mile mark Aaron passed me.  I went with him for a ways and passed a group of guys, and then he lost me.  I tried to push it the rest of the way, but I wasn't feeling it.  When your diet has consisted of many M&Ms and pretzels for the last 4 hours before the race, you won't feel too good.  I wanted a sub-15 min. 5k, but it just wasn't in there for me.  I knew I would be able to push it because I was at sea-level, but with the mileage bump for the last 2 weeks, and the workouts the last few days, I'm really happy with the race.  I only was behind the winner by a little over a minute.  After I cooled down with everyone, and when we passed Michael Johnson's track we did a 400m where we tried to go sub-60.  I was in last for that, but I was still a 58.  Noah ran a 54 and blew us all away.  After we did more of a cool down to bring it up to 4. It was a great experience to come out to this camp for the last few days.  Hopefully I can make it again next year.
