Running Accomplishments:

Pre-high school: I ran a lot of local 5ks and a few half marathons.  I didn't do a ton of training, but I just had fun, and I got more serious about it as high school got closer.

High school: I enjoyed running a lot, especially cross country.  I originally did track to keep my in shape for cross country.  I ran at Footlocker Nationals, the Adidas Dream mile, Brooks PR Invitational, world xc junior championships, and a few local 5ks.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Make sure I have fun, not get burned out, and get faster.

School records in the 5km and 10km.

Personal:

Served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints from July 2015-July 2017.  I gained 30 lbs. during the service and came back out of shape; however I knew that if the Lord wanted me to once again run competitively, he would bless me to return to fitness.

I graduated from Sky View High School in Smithfield, Utah. I currently run for Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah.

Recovery day. Long and easy.  I talked to coach Wright, and he said I'd be doing some recovery for part of this week before getting into the speed again.

10 miles is a long recovery for a high schooler. Great job at State! That 3200 in the heat was super impressive.

Here's a quote for you, Conner:

“I've always felt that long, slow distance produces long, slow runners.” --Sebastian Coe

You're amazing, Conner, and you have a good coach. When I was in high school, I ran nothing but LSD (long, slow distance) during the winter and summer. I entered every competitive season in LSD shape. Well, actually, I never ran more than 40 miles a week during the off-season, so it was more like SSD (short, slow distance). Then when the track season hit, we'd do nothing but intervals on the track, and my average mileage was just 18-20 miles per week, all speed work. A typical week for me included a couple of days of 10-12 x 400 meter intervals and a couple of days of 8-10 x 200 meters. No wonder I was injured over and over. You, on the other hand, are doing it right--you do some quality training year-round so you don't ever really lose your speed conditioning, and you stay in racing shape with indoor track and summer races. You do a lot of tempo runs and strength training, so you can run three great races in two days. I could never do that. When you're too sore or tired, your coach pulls you back. That's so important because runners are Spartan and relentless without a good coach to help control them. My compliments to Coach Wright, as well as to you. I'm envious. I wish I'd trained like you. Not that I was anywhere near as talented as you are, but you're doing it right, Conner. I wish you the very best. Go get Saarel's records. You can do it, and I can't wait to see what you're going to do at Footlocker this year!
