I met with my runamok friends at 6 a.m. We did an eight mile warmup up City Creek canyon. Coach likes us to run a few miles before a 5k. It helps us to warm-up and to get our nerves under control. The usual mentality is "If I run all these miles before a race, I won't do a very fast 5k." So when it comes time to race, mentally you feel like you won't be able to race very fast, so you're more relaxed, and end up doing really well.
This is a PR for me for the course, and the second fastest 5k I've ever run.
1-8:30 (uphill)
2-8:01 (first half of the mile was uphill)
3-6:51 (very fast downhill at the end--we ended in Memory Grove)
We all did really well. Craig Green won the race overall. He got a little gold statue of a runner. It's a really fun race to start off the running season! |
