First things first the marathon can humble you. I was so humbled I am not even listing this as a race report. Weather did not cool down and the wind was over twenty mph for the majority of the run. I didnt ever feel good but I was still on pace for the first half 1:35ish, and then truly fell apart. My second half was in 2:26 and I ended up with a 4:01. I am a little disappointed but I am not too disappointed since my wife had a PR! She broke four hours! So i am very proud of her!

Your short-race PRs are blistering fast. It sounds like you are just missing some high-mileage training to go sub-3 (and a lot lower). Totally understand the humbled feeling! Keep up the hard work and good luck.

Sorry to hear that you had a rough race. Just look at is as a good training run and take it as a learning experience.

Congrats to your wife for breaking 4 - that is a great accomplishment!

The marathon is tough. Like Joe said, your times at shorter races show that you definitely have the ability to run well under 3 hours for the marathon... it will just require some patience / time, lots of miles, and a little bit of magic on race day. You can learn something from every race you run, so chalk this one up as a learning experience like Andrea said, and keep moving forward.

Thanks for the encouragement! As part of the learning experience what do you guys suggest for fueling when running in the hotter temperatures? Yesterday i took water at every aid station and also a glass to pour over my head.

Fueling/drinking in the heat is tricky. At Boston it was hot and my stomach just completely shut down at 17 miles. I don't know if there is any "right" way to do it... water over the head definitely works for keeping cool! But in terms of getting liquids and calories into the system, I guess you just have to experiment a bit during training and find what works for you b/c everyone seems to be different.
