Last night I made some delicious creamy smooth root beer floats (Brent's gonna kill me) for me and my wife, and then I made her watch a movie with me.  The name of the movie was The Memory Keeper's Daughter.  I'm sure it was some Lifetime made-for-TV movie.  The setting for the movie began in the early 60's in Lexington, Kentucky.  A man and a wife were going to have a baby.  What they didn't know is that they were having twins; one boy and one girl.  The father was a bone doctor and had delivered 5 babies in medical school.  It was just him and one of the nurses from the clinic he worked at delivering the babies.  Because they gassed up his wife real good (remember, this was the 60's), she was kind of out of it.  When the girl was born (after the boy), right away you knew something was wrong.  At first we thought she was still born.  That was the first time my wife started crying.  But she was alive.  She had Down syndrome.  Because people weren't educated a lot about Down syndrome back then, and because he saw his mother's life in shambles because of his terminally ill sister, he told the nurse to take her to a "care" home, and he told his wife that she died after birth.  When my wife realized what was going on she not only started crying harder, she started hitting me.  (She's quite abusive.  But any abuse besides emotional, I'm okay with.)  So, the nurse took her to the home, but couldn't leave her there.  She decided to raise her on her own and skip town.  Then whenever we would see her (Phoebe, the little girl with Down syndrome) growing up, my wife would cry.  Whenever the father would recieve polaroids of her, my wife would cry more.  As the father regretted his decision, she cried.  When she was grown up and wanted to get married, she'd cry.  When my two year old with Down's walked in, she cri-ied!  The point of the story is that my wife thinks I'm a jerk now, but she'll get over it.

The ride to work this morning was beautiful.  It's not as hot today as it has been.  I was just cruising.  I wasn't even watching for prairie dogs.  The I finally saw a dead one, and I began to wonder if someone had poisoned them all.  So then I started watching for them and saw 5 of them.

I know I scared the crud out of some lady today.  I was still cruising along when I came up to the intersection at Power and Southern.  As I was going through the intersection I was riding at the same speed that this lady was driving.  She looked over and saw me smiling at her through her passenger window.  Her eyes got all big like, "What the...?"  It was awesome.

wow. that sounds like quite the drama of a movie. most definitely lifetime-caliber. nice ride. and nice job being creepy to the lady in the car. LOL.

Scary lady!

If you want a really bad film watch 'Plan 9 from Outer Space', it's so old you can watch it on google videos for free. My immediate reaction on watching it was 'OMG I have just wasted 1.5 hours of my life and I'll never get them back!" LOL!

From Leandra on Fri, Aug 07, 2009 at 13:06:40 from 67.41.235.172

I'm guessing the lady in the car was old? Seems like the type you're "running into" these days.

From Burt on Fri, Aug 07, 2009 at 13:09:47 from 68.76.197.194

Yeah, she was a bit on the older side. I wasn't going to say anything. Figured Nevels would ask for sure. So thanks.

I cried within 5 minutes of Finding Nemo the first time I saw it.

From Burt on Fri, Aug 07, 2009 at 14:01:13 from 68.76.197.194

So did my wife.

BTW - I knew I'd be getting a text message today from my wife calling me a jerk. That would be my cue that she's read today's entry. Got it at 10:24am MST.

From Burt on Fri, Aug 07, 2009 at 14:07:15 from 68.76.197.194

Chris - I looked up that movie on IMDB. Looks pretty good. And it's in color...!

My wife is mad that she can't post replies to my blog anymore.

From Brent on Fri, Aug 07, 2009 at 14:09:39 from 66.7.127.219

Burt - no killing - burn off that those extra calories chasing cars or prairie dogs, hey? Very nice pace for a commute ride. Did the old lady think you were hitting on her? I have a theory on slow drivers, (no one be offended) Slow drivers have purple hair or no hair, slow drivers are oriental, slow drivers are smokers or smokers on a cell phone. The worst slow drivers are oriental, old, have purple hair smoking while on a cell phone.

Stay Kool, B of BS Rools out

I think I might have cried in Harry Potter 6 too :) But it's ok b/c Leandra was crying too.

From Burt on Fri, Aug 07, 2009 at 14:47:09 from 68.76.197.194

Brent - (no one get offended) The slow drivers here are snow birds and illegals. And you usually know which is which by the type of car they drive. I'll say no more.

Merri - you and your sister are babies. LOL. I told you before you watched it that Dumbledore dies and that Snape was the Half-Blood Prince.

The best was when my wife cried watching the Simpson's. She hates that show. I love it. It was the episode when Homer's mom had to leave him because she was a fugitive on the run. Of course my wife was pregnant, and it was mostlt hormones, but still.

From RAD on Fri, Aug 07, 2009 at 14:56:57 from 76.27.12.70

Burt, tell your wife I really like her! She sounds a lot like me :) My husband always makes fun of me for crying! Next time wink at the old lady as well, then speed off :)

From Merri on Fri, Aug 07, 2009 at 15:14:37 from 160.7.234.108

you know what's a tear jerker? The Waitress. sad sad sad show.

From Leandra on Fri, Aug 07, 2009 at 15:54:13 from 67.41.235.172

Merri also cried in Confessions of a Shopaholic- it's so touching.

From Leandra on Fri, Aug 07, 2009 at 15:55:07 from 67.41.235.172

Don't ever see UP. You and your wife will cry through the whole thing. Except, you should go see it because it's one of the best movies ever.

From Metcalf Running on Fri, Aug 07, 2009 at 16:20:12 from 207.225.192.66

I think I read that book... I cry all the time at movies... even Kodax comercials.... pretty pathetic

From Burt on Fri, Aug 07, 2009 at 16:25:02 from 68.76.197.194

I've seen the waitress, and I don't remember it being all that sad. Doesn't one of her friend's kick the bucket? Anyway, all I remember is that Cheryl Hines is in it. Despite the fact that she's 8 years my elder, she's a hotty.

From Burt on Fri, Aug 07, 2009 at 16:26:10 from 68.76.197.194

Somebody else said Up was tear jerker. Was it Kelli?

Hey Lori. I told you I'd blog about root beer floats.

From Merri on Fri, Aug 07, 2009 at 16:56:28 from 160.7.234.108

Burt don't you remember her abusive husband??? saddest thing I've ever seen.

From James W on Fri, Aug 07, 2009 at 18:06:24 from 12.151.72.1

I have to admit that I shed a tear or two watching HP 6, and I knew all along what was going to happen.

From James W on Fri, Aug 07, 2009 at 18:07:33 from 12.151.72.1

I have to admit that I shed a tear or two watching HP 6, and I knew all along what was going to happen! BTW, thanks for making me jealous about the creamy smooth root beer floats . . .

From Burt on Fri, Aug 07, 2009 at 18:30:11 from 68.76.197.194

Merri - is that because it hits a little too close to home? Now you're husband's going to hit you because I aired his dirty laundry. Lyns and Lily, let me know if Merri has a black eye tomorrow when you go running.

James! I checked on your blog yesterday, and it looked like it'd been a few days since you blogged. Good to see you're getting some miles in. Didn't you tell me at Ragnar that you were a bit of cryer? A blubberer? I used to never cry. Then in '96 when they gave Ali his gold medals, the dam burst. Hey, speaking of Ragnar, I need to start sending out emails to see who's interested for 2010.

From Merri on Sat, Aug 08, 2009 at 14:53:13 from 160.7.234.108

I alwasy run in big dark sunglasses it's nbd. :) Hey mail me a creamy rbf too. (root beer float)

From argentinerocket on Sat, Aug 08, 2009 at 19:14:50 from 74.9.147.114

Talking about good tear jerker movies, I highly recommend "The diving bell and the butterfly". It's also a big time eye-opener (a slow movie too, so don't watch it tired).

I cry every time I talk to my happy little nephew who is back home... I wonder what would've happened to my sister if my parents hadn't adopted her... and that I wouldn't have an adorable nephew if that was the case either...

Way to scare the lady, that's hilarious!

From sam Dean-Howard on Sun, Aug 09, 2009 at 17:53:36 from 90.201.147.65

I prefer horror movies so o don't cry much at movies lol
