Short-Term Running Goals:

Run a half marathon in under two hours.

A new 10k PR!  This wasn't a race, but I managed to run 10,000 meters faster than I ever have.  I didn't mean to run so fast.  I just felt real good this morning.  I still have my Garmin set to alert me after every 8 minutes and 15 seconds.  I figured that sounded just about right because I wanted to run 6.2 miles.  But I never got close to that.  Most of the time I start out fast, and then slow down until I manage to average what I think I'm going to.  This morning I just felt fresh and ready to run.  Below is the breakdown.

Time: 48:50 (avg. pace 7:52) PR by 1 minute

Splits:

1 mile - 7:34

2 mile - 7:47

3 mile - 8:05

4 mile - 8:12

5 mile - 7:55

6 mile - 7:46

0.2 miles - 1:31 (7:22 avg.)

Somebody give me a medal!

According to the race predictor you can run the St George Marathon in 3:37:54 and run a flat half marathon in 1:47:45. Looks like you are well on your way to hitting your short term goals. Seems like you could possibly BQ for next year.

I think it would take at least a solid year of training, 60 miles a week, running 6 days a week, like Sasha says. There's just a little thing I lack right now, and that's dedication. But I'm trying to get better. I don't want to run another marathon until I think I can qualify for Boston.

So, your BQ time is 3:15?? With how fast you have gotten thus far (and quickly, I might add), you could totally do it!! You have us all rooting for you.

Burt, you can do a sub 1:46 HM. My best time for 10k is 49 and I did 1:46 in HM; so if you did 48 min in 10k, I bet you could do a sub 1:46 HM.
