Running Accomplishments:

Stay in the game, keep in the moment - have conquered a few of the holy grails of running - sub 3hr marathon, ran Boston and qualified for Boston at Boston, 10K PR under 6 min miles, won a couple of 5Ks in my early days of running, running for 30 years and ran 39 marathons.  The transistion to the back of the pack has not been easy, but, acceptance, stay in the game, root for others, enjoy the rest of the journey.  Another off the bucket list second =  Provo Half IM -  have done 6 open water Tris and 6 pool Tris.  Gave the STG IM a good Tri, hope to take another shot at the IM.

Short-Term Running Goals:

2013 Race Plan - STG Half IronMan, Lake Mead Rage Olympic distance, STG spring relay tri, STG half marathon, STG marathon, Cozumel IM, Utah Summer Games Triathlon at Gunlock, Murray 5k with family and Utah Half Distance Triathlon, 187 mile red rock relay,  STG marathon,

*note of clarification - cross training miles from biking and swimming calculated as follows: (as someone may wonder) 20 mile an hour bike = 5 cross training miles (those not familar with a 20 mph pace, good bike effort for long distance,  swimming, convert 1 hour swimming to 5 cross training miles.  For those that do not swim much, great cardio workout.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Enjoy the Swim, Bike Run thru Life - Hope to Run a Few Races Support Sylvie - Be a good coach   - Support Jenna, Jeremy, Taylor and Bonnie - my kids are now into running, who would of thunk it.  long term goals, recover from the ankle sprain, accept was it, have fun racing, mountain biking, faster swimming.

Personal:

BSRools, the B stands for Brent and the S for Sylvie.  The Rools come from my personal running rools over the years: Never complain once the run starts, allways pick up the pace into the wind and always pick up the pace on a hill. If someone whines, pick up the pace.  Once a goal is set, no whining, regardless of setbacks.  We were running when running was not Kool.   Kool comes from a race story, ran my first race, 5K wearing a "beanie that had "Kool Aid Kid"

Early morning ride, windy, 27.47 miles.  A few runners on the trail. Stopped and talked to Rob, he is running the grand slam this year, hopped with an IT band issue the last couple of weeks.  Felt good today, will do a two hour workout in the morning.  I can't wait to get the new carbon fiber brace, hoping that it works.

Early morning, bike 30 min. elip 30 min (good effort).  Hope to get the brace today.  got the brace.

Brace report:  Red like the Utes, go utes.  Ran 5 miles with stops about every 1/2 to adjust the brace.  The pace, well who's counting?  It was nice to get out and sweat like a dog, chase Sylvie and feel the fight, determinatin and spirit of running.  I really miss that gut it out feeling.  The brace guy, Ben Criddle of BYU fame, said it will take about a month to adapt, well, good thing, a month is what I have.

It is good I love gut it out, I will get all the gut it out feeling I want over the next month.  The brace weight is about three running shoes heavy and some chafing on the upper thigh.  The challenge is how to run smooth, regardless of the pace.  My plan for the week, every other day, 5 on thursday, 6 on saturday and hopefully 6, 6, 10 the next week with a long run of 15 before St. George.

Thoughts of the day:  I have spent 27 years trying to run in the top 10% at races and place in my division, with some success.  I have met and talked to many runners towards the front, it is time to get to know runners in the rear 10%.  (I will need to learn a new language?)

Lastly, I am starting some new PRs, not time or place PRs:  How many runners I can talk to in a marathon;  how many hi fives, how many low fives, how many gus does a gu eater eat - can I set a record - goal 20 gus at St. George.  Lastly, find out why runners at the back of the pack run marathons?  I will bet it is not to just finish.  My race entry at St.George will not be a record of 26 splits, it will be a race story of communication with the running spirit.

Bike ride this morning, stopped and talked to Cody for a minute, looks in great shape.  I had a darn flat tire, never fun, stopped three times on the way home and pumped up the tire.  Greek Festival 5k in the morning.  Me and Sylvia have done this for several years, nice low key race with a free entry into the festival with the admission.

This was a small race, only 90 runners.  Sylvie ran a 26:02 and was third in her division.

Well, depends on how I look at this race, a PR for Brent and Bracey, but, a PR Worst for Brent.  Today's run was more of a trial with the knee, did not stop and ran a consistent slow pace, hopefully, marathon pace.

Grand Prize: They drew my name, maybe a new car, no so, a one nigh stay at Holiday Inn and two tickets to the Symphony.  The Holiday Inn is the SLC Holiday Inn.  Well, we are going to find someone to give the Symphony tickets, any bloggers in Salt Lake interested?

We spend much of the morning chatting with Quiten about running, he is a real talker.
