Running Accomplishments:

Stay in the game, keep in the moment - have conquered a few of the holy grails of running - sub 3hr marathon, ran Boston and qualified for Boston at Boston, 10K PR under 6 min miles, won a couple of 5Ks in my early days of running, running for 30 years and ran 39 marathons.  The transistion to the back of the pack has not been easy, but, acceptance, stay in the game, root for others, enjoy the rest of the journey.  Another off the bucket list second =  Provo Half IM -  have done 6 open water Tris and 6 pool Tris.  Gave the STG IM a good Tri, hope to take another shot at the IM.

Short-Term Running Goals:

2013 Race Plan - STG Half IronMan, Lake Mead Rage Olympic distance, STG spring relay tri, STG half marathon, STG marathon, Cozumel IM, Utah Summer Games Triathlon at Gunlock, Murray 5k with family and Utah Half Distance Triathlon, 187 mile red rock relay,  STG marathon,

*note of clarification - cross training miles from biking and swimming calculated as follows: (as someone may wonder) 20 mile an hour bike = 5 cross training miles (those not familar with a 20 mph pace, good bike effort for long distance,  swimming, convert 1 hour swimming to 5 cross training miles.  For those that do not swim much, great cardio workout.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Enjoy the Swim, Bike Run thru Life - Hope to Run a Few Races Support Sylvie - Be a good coach   - Support Jenna, Jeremy, Taylor and Bonnie - my kids are now into running, who would of thunk it.  long term goals, recover from the ankle sprain, accept was it, have fun racing, mountain biking, faster swimming.

Again to Carthage (John L. Parker, Jr.)  The Sequel to Once a Runner, not often a sequel compares, this one does

What I Talk About When I Talk About Running ( Haruki Murakami)  things we have may all thought, but may never blog

Roughing It - Mark Twain

Personal:

BSRools, the B stands for Brent and the S for Sylvie.  The Rools come from my personal running rools over the years: Never complain once the run starts, allways pick up the pace into the wind and always pick up the pace on a hill. If someone whines, pick up the pace.  Once a goal is set, no whining, regardless of setbacks.  We were running when running was not Kool.   Kool comes from a race story, ran my first race, 5K wearing a "beanie that had "Kool Aid Kid"

Thoughts of the day - Some moments live in time for all of us.  I had one of those moments today.  This first time my grandson smiled at me.  He is just over three weeks old.  I was holding him and barely touched his nose, it must have given him a tickle, he gave me such a sweet smile.  It seems when you are raising you own kids, just trying to ge thru the day, we may miss some of those special moments.  Tristan, is Kool,  By the way, my daughter and her husband (Jenna and Jeremy) were standing right with me for the smile, we were all quite giddish.

32 miles spin bike class, hurry off to work.  Spin classes offer some social and some limited entertainment.  We have all sorts in the class, from the novice who can almost crash a spin bike to those who wear their century shirst, Triple Crown ect.  Also, the lingo is somewhat like runnng with PRs, etc.  I have not quite caught on to the lingo.  I feel like a runner out of place.  I know this will never be my passion, no races to win, no PRs to tackle.  My challenge is to enjoy the moment.

Before work, ARC trainer 30 minutes, circuit weights upper body

After work - 95 minutes of spin class with Sylvie,

We lost our internet connection at home yesterday, Sylvie had to down load a report from her work, we drove over to a Mad Coffee shop that had wireless internet.  I felt guilty setting outside the shop using the internet.

Not a running entry - and entry on life 2-19-09

four weeks ago, my oldest daughter Jenna, had her first baby, a boy named Tristan.  She was quite upset, scared, hormones, etc.  I reassured her that she and her hubby Jeremy would be great parents and in a couple of weeks her son would smile at her with approval.  So is the cycle of life, as Jenna listened, I was hoping that to live to see Tristan's first child.

Today, the life cycle continues on, my mother was diagnosed for the second time with breast cancer.  It seems more serious this time.  I quickly called my youngest daughter Shanna, she is a radiation therapist to get some feel of would could be expected.  Expectations may not be the best, or could be, who knows.  My mother, is in farily good shape at 78, she very well could enjoy life much longer.  I called my mother again today, she was funny, she really hoped to outlive my dad so she could feel freedom.  It is a long story of a generation of men who were not the best to their spouse.  Anyway, I could write a book about the goodness of my mother and her sense of humor.  I could write another book about my father, salt of the earth.

2 and 1/2 hours spinning class today, good effort, another 10 miles with Sylvie, 61 miles total.  Sylvie is practicing for our duathlon next weekend.   I rode my new mountain bike today, sweet, sweet ride.  I counted 23 runners on the trail today and about a dozen bikers.  I wore my Boston Marathon jacket today, got a few double takes from some of the runners.  Said hi to BC, has won  the masters division at Des News marathon like 5 or 6 years in a row.
