Running Accomplishments:

Stay in the game, keep in the moment - have conquered a few of the holy grails of running - sub 3hr marathon, ran Boston and qualified for Boston at Boston, 10K PR under 6 min miles, won a couple of 5Ks in my early days of running, running for 30 years and ran 39 marathons.  The transistion to the back of the pack has not been easy, but, acceptance, stay in the game, root for others, enjoy the rest of the journey.  Another off the bucket list second =  Provo Half IM -  have done 6 open water Tris and 6 pool Tris.  Gave the STG IM a good Tri, hope to take another shot at the IM.

Short-Term Running Goals:

2013 Race Plan - STG Half IronMan, Lake Mead Rage Olympic distance, STG spring relay tri, STG half marathon, STG marathon, Cozumel IM, Utah Summer Games Triathlon at Gunlock, Murray 5k with family and Utah Half Distance Triathlon, 187 mile red rock relay,  STG marathon,

*note of clarification - cross training miles from biking and swimming calculated as follows: (as someone may wonder) 20 mile an hour bike = 5 cross training miles (those not familar with a 20 mph pace, good bike effort for long distance,  swimming, convert 1 hour swimming to 5 cross training miles.  For those that do not swim much, great cardio workout.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Enjoy the Swim, Bike Run thru Life - Hope to Run a Few Races Support Sylvie - Be a good coach   - Support Jenna, Jeremy, Taylor and Bonnie - my kids are now into running, who would of thunk it.  long term goals, recover from the ankle sprain, accept was it, have fun racing, mountain biking, faster swimming.

Personal:

BSRools, the B stands for Brent and the S for Sylvie.  The Rools come from my personal running rools over the years: Never complain once the run starts, allways pick up the pace into the wind and always pick up the pace on a hill. If someone whines, pick up the pace.  Once a goal is set, no whining, regardless of setbacks.  We were running when running was not Kool.   Kool comes from a race story, ran my first race, 5K wearing a "beanie that had "Kool Aid Kid"

Hobbled the Hobble Creek today.  I ran and walked the course today.  I DQed myself after the race.  Minus 1,000 commando points.  (This was an intentional DQ on my part)  My total time was 2:40,  running about 8 miles and walking the rest.

Sylvie Race Report:  She ran a 1:50 and took second in her division.

Happy that I could run 8 miles with the temporary brace.

Met bloggers in person today:  MarcieJ, MicelleL and Marion.

Some addtional comments, now I am in a better frame of mind.  The brace did help, I am hopefull.  Funny thing, I walked the steeper downhills and charged the uphills.  I got a couple of odd reactions from this running.  Also, a running friend, John Straley, came back after he won our division and ran me in for a 1/2 mile or so (he was very close to Tom and MarcieJ, 1:24 area), he made a good observation, run on the pavement smooth, is much  better than running in the dirt with the chance of twisting the knee.  Nice of him to come back to see how I was doing.  Sorry to say, I am just out of running shape.  I plan on running St.George if the new brace allows me to run a couple of long runs, 12 to 15 and I gut out St.George.

I did not say enough about MichelleL the Lion Queen and Queen Josse, the only thing that exceeds their running talent is their kindness.  If running were the NBA, they would be rock stars.

Stay Kool, B of BS Rools out - I have some real work over the next 6 weeks:

1.  Lose 6 pounds

2.  Get in a long run on friday, either run with the brace or acqua jog for two hours and elip for two hours, whatever combination works.

It was so nice to meet you today! I'm sorry you had to hobble Hobble Creek. Hopefully next year you can tear it up.

From Mike Warren on Sat, Aug 23, 2008 at 17:06:59

Brent, no matter it's still a good workout. Did the brace help? Maybe the new brace will be much better. No need to loose commando points. I say 2000 in the bank! Just for the fact it's easy to sit on your duff and do nothing when injured. Glad your getting out and participating. Great job!

From Clay on Sat, Aug 23, 2008 at 19:01:28

I'll give you a 1,000 commando points back just for trying!!!:-)

From marion on Sat, Aug 23, 2008 at 19:58:22

SO, SO nice to meet you and Sylive today! I agree with the other bloggers, the commando points should still be given- you went- you did not quit! I should have done it with you. You could have made me stick to my walk/run plan, that Josse did not believe I would stick too :) She was probably right!

So nice to meet all these nice runners!

From Tom on Sat, Aug 23, 2008 at 20:13:03

Brent it's unanimous-- you're deduction of commando points has been overruled! Always nice to see you and Sylvie at the races and to chat, if just for a bit. Hope good things are in store for you when you get that spiffy hi-tech brace and become Bionic Brent.

From Brent on Sat, Aug 23, 2008 at 22:02:14

Michelle, I often say that I would be happy just to run, but, the minute I could run I would want to be division competitive.

Mike, Clay, Warren and Tom, thanks for the support, the brace did help greatly, I have very litte soreness and no pain after the run. I will be called 8 of 9 if the brace works. B and S got a very nice massage this afternoon.

Marion, walk and run is a good plan for many runners. It really works well if you are new to running and want to improve. You likely would have kicked by butt walking today, I am one slow walker. Personally, I very seldom walk unless injured, I am a guts and grind em type runner.

Brent, whats in 6 weeks? Am I sensing a STGM in your future?

From Jody on Sun, Aug 24, 2008 at 02:14:02

You amazed me today - you are so tough and always so giving to all runners. Thank you so much for calming me down and running with me for a bit - you have no idea how much you helped! 100 commando points back atcha!

From josse on Sun, Aug 24, 2008 at 19:15:36

I was surprised to see you on the course. And happy to see you as well. I knew it was you from quite a distance off. Way to go, I hope the brace helps and be super careful out there:)
