Running Accomplishments:

Stay in the game, keep in the moment - have conquered a few of the holy grails of running - sub 3hr marathon, ran Boston and qualified for Boston at Boston, 10K PR under 6 min miles, won a couple of 5Ks in my early days of running, running for 30 years and ran 39 marathons.  The transistion to the back of the pack has not been easy, but, acceptance, stay in the game, root for others, enjoy the rest of the journey.  Another off the bucket list second =  Provo Half IM -  have done 6 open water Tris and 6 pool Tris.  Gave the STG IM a good Tri, hope to take another shot at the IM.

Short-Term Running Goals:

2013 Race Plan - STG Half IronMan, Lake Mead Rage Olympic distance, STG spring relay tri, STG half marathon, STG marathon, Cozumel IM, Utah Summer Games Triathlon at Gunlock, Murray 5k with family and Utah Half Distance Triathlon, 187 mile red rock relay,  STG marathon,

*note of clarification - cross training miles from biking and swimming calculated as follows: (as someone may wonder) 20 mile an hour bike = 5 cross training miles (those not familar with a 20 mph pace, good bike effort for long distance,  swimming, convert 1 hour swimming to 5 cross training miles.  For those that do not swim much, great cardio workout.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Enjoy the Swim, Bike Run thru Life - Hope to Run a Few Races Support Sylvie - Be a good coach   - Support Jenna, Jeremy, Taylor and Bonnie - my kids are now into running, who would of thunk it.  long term goals, recover from the ankle sprain, accept was it, have fun racing, mountain biking, faster swimming.

Personal:

BSRools, the B stands for Brent and the S for Sylvie.  The Rools come from my personal running rools over the years: Never complain once the run starts, allways pick up the pace into the wind and always pick up the pace on a hill. If someone whines, pick up the pace.  Once a goal is set, no whining, regardless of setbacks.  We were running when running was not Kool.   Kool comes from a race story, ran my first race, 5K wearing a "beanie that had "Kool Aid Kid"

Early morning work for 6 hours.   Decided to do a light workout, bench press, curls, side lifts, wall squat, 30 minutes spin bike and 30 minutes Nordic trak.

It is has been a quite boring day, read the first few pages of The secret life of bees, it seems like a chick flick?

Nice workout! You are so motivated (and kool) - Yeah, judging by the movie trailer, definitely a chick flick... need recommendations for books to read? What's your style?

From The Howling Commando on Sun, Feb 08, 2009 at 18:17:06

I haven't seen the movie trailer, but I enjoy the book .. I'm about 160 pages in. It's a book that touches on human emotion at its most natural state.. all the main character searches for is to know what LOVE is. Eh, idk I enjoy it because I like Sue Monk Kidd's style, and its historical setting being in the racialized 1960s hotbed of the deep South.

Brent, we've never met, but I just saw that you posted an entry and was bored and looking through the blog. First of all...Great work out! I'd never do wall squats if someone wasn't forcing me. However, what caught my eye was 'The Secret Life of Bees'. I saw it on Friday and LOVED it, and yes, it really is a chick flick. I think I cried for the last 45 minutes of the film. I'm sure the book is better, and if you're a sensitive guy you might like it (my husband didn't mind it, but wasn't enthralled like me). Either way its a good emotional rollercoaster ... if you like that sort of thing!

Hey Rocket, ow is the recovery going? Books, my daughter reads two books a week and has endless recommendations to strengthen my soul, great daugher. I generally read books, fiction/fact based that tell a story. I have likely read the most boring book known to man, The Gulag Archipelag, Alexander Schlzehntisyn - Siberia Prision camp. I usually pick books on a sports type story.

Howling Commando - I am going to finish the "Secret Life of Bees" I read your blog and my daughter had already loaned me the book to read, your way too fast a reader, you will be done with 3 books before I finish.

Rachel, Rachel - blog anytime, I will check in on your training progress, you really seem ready for a great training year, with good trainng partners.

Hmmm a book about a prison camp... I think I'll pass... You've probably read "Good morning midnight" - if by chance you haven't, I highly recommend it. I'm sure you've read "Into thin air", one of my favorites...

Oh, I've got the best running partners around! They've made me do stuff I wouldn't have even thought about without them - namely hill REPEATS! Why keep going up? Just go up and get it over with as quickly as possible! Oh, by the way I read your "BSROOLS" and I think I need to adopt them! I've always secretly held the 'never whine once it starts' the picking up the pace up hills will be difficult, but it seems to be working for you so I'm gonna take it!! Run on.
