Running Accomplishments:

Stay in the game, keep in the moment - have conquered a few of the holy grails of running - sub 3hr marathon, ran Boston and qualified for Boston at Boston, 10K PR under 6 min miles, won a couple of 5Ks in my early days of running, running for 30 years and ran 39 marathons.  The transistion to the back of the pack has not been easy, but, acceptance, stay in the game, root for others, enjoy the rest of the journey.  Another off the bucket list second =  Provo Half IM -  have done 6 open water Tris and 6 pool Tris.  Gave the STG IM a good Tri, hope to take another shot at the IM.

Short-Term Running Goals:

2013 Race Plan - STG Half IronMan, Lake Mead Rage Olympic distance, STG spring relay tri, STG half marathon, STG marathon, Cozumel IM, Utah Summer Games Triathlon at Gunlock, Murray 5k with family and Utah Half Distance Triathlon, 187 mile red rock relay,  STG marathon,

*note of clarification - cross training miles from biking and swimming calculated as follows: (as someone may wonder) 20 mile an hour bike = 5 cross training miles (those not familar with a 20 mph pace, good bike effort for long distance,  swimming, convert 1 hour swimming to 5 cross training miles.  For those that do not swim much, great cardio workout.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Enjoy the Swim, Bike Run thru Life - Hope to Run a Few Races Support Sylvie - Be a good coach   - Support Jenna, Jeremy, Taylor and Bonnie - my kids are now into running, who would of thunk it.  long term goals, recover from the ankle sprain, accept was it, have fun racing, mountain biking, faster swimming.

Personal:

BSRools, the B stands for Brent and the S for Sylvie.  The Rools come from my personal running rools over the years: Never complain once the run starts, allways pick up the pace into the wind and always pick up the pace on a hill. If someone whines, pick up the pace.  Once a goal is set, no whining, regardless of setbacks.  We were running when running was not Kool.   Kool comes from a race story, ran my first race, 5K wearing a "beanie that had "Kool Aid Kid"

Early morning bike ride, very good effort, rode North for most of the ride, open trail, no one around for the first 30 miles, the last 20 we filled with dog walkers, kids, etc. I had to slow down several times.  Total bike miles 50.80, converted to 12.70 cross training miles.

Bike costs, now, you think biking would be cheap, I have worn out 3 tires and 4 tubes this summer.  A good mountain bike tire is about $35 to $50.  The slim tubes about $8 for the presta valves.  I cannot complain, the biking gets me out.

Runner Chat: Stopped and talked to George today, former SLTC president for years, age is catching up to us older runners, he has a hammy that is killing him.

Stay Kool, B of BS Rools out

*I really hope that everyone has a good St.George. In the end, the marathon should not be measured by time, place, BQs, etc.  The measure should be the hard work and fun along the journey to get to the marathon.  Anything can happen on marathon day, it is only one day in the journey.

You are truly a biking machine! I haven't worn out any tires or tubes this summer :( Grr. I need to try harder! You are such an asset to the running community, buddy. You are doing everything you can do to get to the starting line and I know I speak for everyone here when I say we are all praying for you to have a great painfree run!

Way to wear out your bike tires! (Better that than your knees!)

Good point about the marathon. It's the journey!

Gotta love you Brent! You are always so motivational in your posts- whether you are feeling up or down, you are always moving forward. I have to agree with Lybi, worn out bikes tubes are much cheaper to replace than worn out knees...or really worn out shoes for that matter!

Yesterday when I was hobbling along crying I thought of you coming across a crying runner a few weeks ago. I didn't have anyone stop and ask me if I was OK. I was limping slowly down a very busy road and NO ONE stopped to help me out. I was a little bugged. But I guess if you are in running gear they think you are out intentionally, even IF YOU ARE LIMPING AND CRYING! I was thinking, "where's Brent or someone like him?"

I like your idea of the journey! I have had an amazing journey with this marathon! No matter what happens, I love what I have accomplished!
