Running Accomplishments:

Stay in the game, keep in the moment - have conquered a few of the holy grails of running - sub 3hr marathon, ran Boston and qualified for Boston at Boston, 10K PR under 6 min miles, won a couple of 5Ks in my early days of running, running for 30 years and ran 39 marathons.  The transistion to the back of the pack has not been easy, but, acceptance, stay in the game, root for others, enjoy the rest of the journey.  Another off the bucket list second =  Provo Half IM -  have done 6 open water Tris and 6 pool Tris.  Gave the STG IM a good Tri, hope to take another shot at the IM.

Short-Term Running Goals:

2013 Race Plan - STG Half IronMan, Lake Mead Rage Olympic distance, STG spring relay tri, STG half marathon, STG marathon, Cozumel IM, Utah Summer Games Triathlon at Gunlock, Murray 5k with family and Utah Half Distance Triathlon, 187 mile red rock relay,  STG marathon,

*note of clarification - cross training miles from biking and swimming calculated as follows: (as someone may wonder) 20 mile an hour bike = 5 cross training miles (those not familar with a 20 mph pace, good bike effort for long distance,  swimming, convert 1 hour swimming to 5 cross training miles.  For those that do not swim much, great cardio workout.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Enjoy the Swim, Bike Run thru Life - Hope to Run a Few Races Support Sylvie - Be a good coach   - Support Jenna, Jeremy, Taylor and Bonnie - my kids are now into running, who would of thunk it.  long term goals, recover from the ankle sprain, accept was it, have fun racing, mountain biking, faster swimming.

Again to Carthage (John L. Parker, Jr.)  The Sequel to Once a Runner, not often a sequel compares, this one does

What I Talk About When I Talk About Running ( Haruki Murakami)  things we have may all thought, but may never blog

Roughing It - Mark Twain

Personal:

BSRools, the B stands for Brent and the S for Sylvie.  The Rools come from my personal running rools over the years: Never complain once the run starts, allways pick up the pace into the wind and always pick up the pace on a hill. If someone whines, pick up the pace.  Once a goal is set, no whining, regardless of setbacks.  We were running when running was not Kool.   Kool comes from a race story, ran my first race, 5K wearing a "beanie that had "Kool Aid Kid"

Body at a Stand Still - 1 hr on the Arc machine this morning.  Hamstring ball excercises, one leg squats, stretching, abductors, etc. Went bonkers saturday, knee is just not coming around.  Call the Dr. again today, somewhat frustrating.  On the positive side, had a fun day on easter with the family.  My oldest daughter has decided it is time to have a baby.  Well, Sylvie bought a high chair for her, Eddie Bauer, cherry wood.  What does this have to do with running, nothing.

Needle work Today, without the thimble - Got a cortizone shot in the knee.  Well, tough decision.  No running for about a week, maybe some light spinning in a few days.  Dr. says if this does not get it better, MRI to see if there is a tear and maybe orthoscopic to clean up the calcuim deposits (or something like that).  Nice of the Dr. to fit me into a full schedule, took some begging.  The Dr. is sympathic towards runners, John Cahill, is one of his patients.

Nice crosstraining! Hope the doctor has some advice. Glad you had a good weekend!

Sorry that your knee's not doing well. Hopefully it will come around quickly as you're in such great shape otherwise. The hardest thing is just knowing how much to backoff so your body can heal. Best of luck to you!

Dang Brent I'm really bummed out to hear the knee is causing continued grief. Hey keep posting the non-running stuff....Easter, family, etc. That will help up all remember the stuff that's most important!

From laura on Mon, Mar 24, 2008 at 10:11:03

I'm so sorry your knee is giving you such a hard time, Brent. Congratulations on the new grandchild - did you mean she's pregnant, trying, or just gave birth? Either way, it's great news! Eddie Bauer high chair at grandma's house - wow! That kid is already destined to have GREAT Christmas presents from Grandma!!!! ;o)

From Kim on Mon, Mar 24, 2008 at 10:54:01

Are we even going to see you and Sylvie at Strider's? I sure hope so! I'm sorry you have both had injuries to struggle with! You are definitely both great sports! When I'm out on a morning run with the stars I will use my star wishes on you two to get back up to your usual healthy selves!

From Brent on Mon, Mar 24, 2008 at 13:07:32

Kerry, thanks for the support, you have had a tough time with injury.

Laura, the knee will get better, I am just not patient. Thanks, she is not pregnant yet, keeping our fingers crossed.

Tom, Kim, thanks for the support, we still plan on doing striders. We will be there, even if, just Sylvie runs. But, I plan on running, even if, at a slow pace. If not, I will take lots of pictures.

My ultimate concern is being healthy for the summer races and St.George.

That too bad about the knee. I had a cortisone shot once for a neuroma in my foot, most painful injury I have ever had! I wouldn't recommend too many of those things! We'll hope for some good MRI results.

What can I say, Im bummed for you. I hate when bummer things happen to such nice people. Only "makes you stronger" I guess.

Also hopeful for a new grandbaby to come along. Is this a first for you?

From Bethany on Mon, Mar 24, 2008 at 19:38:42

I just realized that I am not you! Sorry Brent!

From James on Mon, Mar 24, 2008 at 20:46:23

Thanks Bethany, I thought Brent was asking me about a Grand baby, and I am not quite that old!

From Mike Warren on Tue, Mar 25, 2008 at 01:38:30

Brent, sorry about the slow updates! It's been kinda crazy as of late. Sorry about your knee. It seems like, just when you put the hard work in, something else happens! I guess it builds character! Anyway, I finally updated and I really appreciate all your concern. Best of luck to you and the knee!
