Blaaaaahhhhh sums up my morning run. I was feeling really good after this past week so I ate like a little piggy this weekend. Seriously... doughnuts, pizza, cookies, & hot wings! So this morning I paid the price and I knew exactly why too. As a matter of fact when my wife asked how my run was and I said it was tough she commented on what I ate as well.
I guess I am finding that I may actually have a screw or two loose. How else could I explain training as hard as I do and not being able to focus at the dinner table? Oh well can't change the past can only work on the future.
This morning my legs felt really tight at the start and actually took about 3 miles to loosen up. I am wondering if I should take Sunday totally off or if I should get out and do a very.. very light 2-3 miles to keep my muscles limber and loose to some degree?
Also I think there definitely is a correlation to me running in cold and how I feel. This morning the cold weather came back so I was running like an Eskimo again wrapped up in multiple layers with skull cap and gloves... approx. 35 degrees. Big difference from Saturday when it was much higher. Oh well I better get used to it because they are forecasting even lower temps prior to the end of the week.
Enough for now... stay tuned until after lunch.
Goal is to hit upper body in the gym today and will sneak in my 3 on the treadmill.
Lunch Update: Upper body workout was ok but I can tell I am loosing strength. It is a sacrifice I will have to make in order to run faster and I am ok with making not only the strength change but hopefully the lifestyle change. Meaning transitioning from being a bulky heavy lifter body type to a more slim runner body style. Long term I will not be able to maintain real "heavy" lifting anyway.. now is a good time to make the transition.
My work out buddy Jake did not make it so after hitting chest, I jumped on the treadmill to get my miles in. First 2 went well so I figured I would try to edge in an extra mile to start making up for those doughnuts :-) After giving it some long thought I felt that someone should be responsible for all that I ate... then it hit me... that I am the person who was responsible!
Well after going at about an average pace of 8.5 min / mile for the first 3 I slowed up on the last mile to around a 9 min mile. Not a bad run at all.. felt a LOT better than this morning. Could be because of the warmer temps (i.e. inside on treadmill) in conjunction with less cloths.. shorts and short sleeve shirt! - Talk to everyone tomorrow! |
