Maintain weekly mileage at 80 or more....


Long-Term Running Goals:

train and run a 30 mile ultra-marathon.

Personal:

I am a 52 yr. old single father of four children.  I am retired after injuring my back in 2000. I had back surgery, stopped running, and gained about 80 pounds. Decided to take my health into my own hands....lost 100 pounds, went to Nepal and trekked for two months in the Himalayas...climbed almost 18,000 ft.....felt so proud of myself....began running again. I qualified for Boston in Oct. 2009. I have shifted my focus now on ultra-marathons with the hope to run my first this year.

What a day!.Left Detroit on a flight to Minneapolis and then on to Seattle. Flight left on time, but when I arrived in Minneapolis, found out that my 7 pm flight to Seattle was cancelled, due to a major snow storm in Seattle...so they put me on a standby flight leaving at 9.55 pm. If I don't get on that flight, I will have to fly the next available flight....Dec.25, so I decided that if I don't get on, I will just return home. Luckily out of 100 people on standby, they called my name. Boarded, but sat on the runway for 1 hour, flew to Seattle, sat on the runway for another hour, then got to the gate....then found out that my luggage is lost and I could not get a pickup at the airport from my brother because he was snowed in. Stayed in a hotel that night, then went to the airport in the am to try to retrieve my luggage....with no luck...had to put a claim through, and hopefully it will show up in a few days.....anyways, an interesting start to the christmas holidays....Could really use a good run now to destress, but I have no shoes...they are in my luggage!

Anyways, glad to be here never the less.

...an uneventful day in Seattle...but relaxing ....helped my brother with a move to a new office location....he is a doctor and works for the Seattle Cancer and Wellness Center....they moved to a new...much larger complex...so we spent the day helping out in the transition.

....still no luggage...which means no running shoes!

Today I managed to get a little bit of a workout...shovelling snow...then I discovered a fitness club minutes from were I am at, so I will get a workout in tomorrow, but feeling real frustrated that I cannot run because I have no runners. Oh well...have to accept things as they are!

30 minutes on elliptical cross trainer because I had no runners

busy day ....had to pick everyone up at the airport.....and thank god....after 6 days my luggage finally showed up at the Seattle airport.....just happy to have my runners!

TM.....5 miles at an easy pace of 8.25 minutes, but felt soooo good to run.

strength training...full body 

Today was my 50th birthday.....had a great time with family....went out to eat some wild caught Pacific Northwest Salmon....what a treat!
