Personal:

I am a 52 yr. old single father of four children.  I am retired after injuring my back in 2000. I had back surgery, stopped running, and gained about 80 pounds. Decided to take my health into my own hands....lost 100 pounds, went to Nepal and trekked for two months in the Himalayas...climbed almost 18,000 ft.....felt so proud of myself....began running again. I qualified for Boston in Oct. 2009. I have shifted my focus now on ultra-marathons with the hope to run my first this year.

Brian,

Too many week to week long runs, I am worried as your chiropractor that you will run out of steam and get an injury or an immune problem. I may be wrong but your training is more for a ultra marathon not a marathon. My worry is the long runs that count 5 and 3 weeks out from Ottawa will be tough because your tired.

I think you should do some races like yesterday and some speed and hills as well as a long run every other week.

But then again maybe I am just jealous!!

Talk to you soon, looks like the running clinic will start the first week of May, lots of people are joining, fun.

Nice run. Most advanced training marathon schedules recommend a 20-mile run every other week at the most. On an off week perhaps run a 12, 14, or 16. Or if you want to keep the mileage up, run two 10-milers in a day- one morning, the other afternoon. Most importantly, listen to your body. Some folks can take more pounding than others. Don't get sucked in by the "mileage board" if it's causing you to experience overtraining systems or pain.

Again, nice run. The improvement's beginning to show.

Great run and also some great advice above. 21M at better than MP is quite a workout, now you need a lot of recovery runs and shorter stuff to balance this hard workout so you don't create an opportunity for injury.
