10K: 43:33 (2010)

10 mile: 1:13:35 (2009) (1:12:15 split in 1/2 marathon, 2011)

1/2 marathon: 1:34:31 (2011)

marathon: 3:19:15 (2013)

Short-Term Running Goals:

3:20 marathon - Eugene Marathon, April 28, 2013 (can I say I really want a sub 3:20? but I will be happy with 3:20-3:23) -- whoohoo!

Some good intermediate races 15K - 1/2 marathon, to gauge my fitness level (done this, hit a 1:34:35 1/2 marathon in March 2013, on a hilly course)

Going after my 10 mile PR in Fall 2013

Maybe some good 10K races after the infernal Arizona summer is over!

Long-Term Running Goals:

I want to be one of those runners who is still running in their 80s (or 90s?).  You know the ones, who look all grisley and fit?  That is what I would like!  Until then, I just want to work hard and be as fast as I can, for as long as I can.

1:53:13.  Did a long hilly loop in the mountains around my house (52:50/51:00 + 9:22 on some trails) - the last loop was much harder than it looks, not only is the last 20` seriously uphill but a storm is blowing through and it was into a pretty strong headwind ... I was really glad to get to the house!  As a way to describe the difficulty of this last bit, it is a road that is winding up into the mountains where I live, it starts at 45mph at the bottom and then because of the switchbacks as it climbs it slows down to 15mph in front of my house ... it is not really a straight uphill climb, but more of a incline with hills.  Very good training ... but can be challenging mentally.

I felt much better today, I guess I had not eaten enough on Friday, and it meant that I did not have enough energy yesterday, because I ate much better yesterday (very well in fact) I felt pretty good today.  Dean really was over the top yesterday with his eating -- he ate a huge piece of pecan pie his Mom had sent us (a cute little 6" thing), some fudge, and a big dinner. We never (seriously never) eat things like that so I was pretty surprised watching him - but he still looks like a skinny runner even after being injured for a year now so he deserves to let loose every few years ;-).

I hope you are all having a wonderful day after Christmas.  After a morning of depression trying to list all of the work I lost and have to try to make up this week (not to mention the pain of getting a new drivers license - made worse by the fact that the one I lost was a Utah license so I have to spend all day taking the written and drivers test to get an Arizona license, since I don't have an out-of-state to exchange), I am resigned to working a doubly full week next week so I can recreate 2 weeks worth of paper-writing and programming.

The week ahead of you sounds tough. but I guess with play time comes work time. Stinks!

Great mileage today!

great post-christmas run!

i'm so sorry to hear about the car break-in and all the hassle you are now dealing with because of it. you definitely get an A+ for attitude though. best of luck getting everything sorted out this week.

my over the top eating is all santa's fault. he discovered my pistachio weakness and left me an extremely huge bag of them, which i subsequently snacked on all day yesterday. :/

Car broken into? I guess that is what I get for being lazy and not clicking on your previous week blog. I"m sorry that happened! Replacing that stuff is a PITA!

Allie-are pistachios bad for you?

From allie on Sun, Dec 26, 2010 at 23:34:41 from 174.23.238.75

pistachios are great! it's just that there is this side effect: eating them in ridiculously large quantities may result in an extra chin or two.

From Bonnie on Mon, Dec 27, 2010 at 01:20:43 from 64.119.33.134

allie, you are so cute that even with 2 chins you would be a 10 ;-). I LOVE pistachios -- I can't tell you how many times I have enough to get sick ... luckily, not since I have had the metabolism of a slug ;-) ... you could use a couple of pounds.

april, I can't even tell you how many times I have been robbed over my lifetime ... this was not the worst ... but it always sucks. I feel lucky that it takes more than this to get me seriously down ... This was you first Christmas as a married couple wasn't it?? wow....

Bonnie--knock on wood I haven't had stuff stolen from me in a while. Thank goodness! Yes it is our first year as husband and wife!

Wow. Sorry to hear about the break-in.

You are an amazing runner with that route you ran today. And you work way too hard. I hope they pay you well.
