marathon: 3:19:15 (2013)

Short-Term Running Goals:

3:20 marathon - Eugene Marathon, April 28, 2013 (can I say I really want a sub 3:20? but I will be happy with 3:20-3:23) -- whoohoo!

Some good intermediate races 15K - 1/2 marathon, to gauge my fitness level (done this, hit a 1:34:35 1/2 marathon in March 2013, on a hilly course)

Going after my 10 mile PR in Fall 2013

Maybe some good 10K races after the infernal Arizona summer is over!

Long-Term Running Goals:

I want to be one of those runners who is still running in their 80s (or 90s?).  You know the ones, who look all grisley and fit?  That is what I would like!  Until then, I just want to work hard and be as fast as I can, for as long as I can.

approximately 75 mins of bike and elliptical.  Heart really not into it today, sort of down.  It has only been a 2.5 weeks, it feels like an eternity.

Happy trails bloggers.

I understand entirely Bonnie. Hang tough and just keep reminding yourself that this won't be how it is forever, in a relatively short time you'll be back on the roads with renewed vigor and appreciation for the simple act of running!

Hang in there Bonnie! Being injured is a huge bummer but as you have noticed here on the blog, folks tend to come back from their injuries faster and stronger than ever! I agree with Tom--the sheer joy of being able to run will be great when you get back out there!

D*mn Bonnie! I've been meaning to catch up on your blog, saw that you had gone spinning on your facebook and knew the news would not be good. I am so sorry.

But catch me up--how did John get 100% certain? Did it show on a bone scan?

From Bonnie on Thu, Sep 23, 2010 at 19:46:55 from 128.196.228.134

Hi Michelle, yes, it is a bummer.

So, the long story: I went to see John a few times (once a week for 3/4 weeks) from the very beginning he thought it was a stress fracture, but I told him no it wasn't and when he would work on my soleus and near my achilles it would feel "better" - but it would come back the next day.

I quit running after I saw you and after a couple weeks the "muscle" pain diminished (along with the inflammation, apparently). So last weekend we went to see him, he touched my tibia in a certain place that I told him it had (and was) hurting, and I nearly jumped off the table. He said, "Bonnie you have a stress fracture", I told him, "no I don't, you just need to work on the tendon/muscle/thing there", he said, "there is nothing there but bone".

Short story, x-ray was negative, MRI scheduled for next week. Since it still hurts the same, and I can't even spin (but I can elliptic - whoopee), and I have not run for 2.5 weeks, all things point to stress fracture. At this point it is unlikely it is a simpler muscle strain - and quite frankly, as Dean said, "Bonnie, John knows this stuff really well" (since he diagnosis this pretty frequently). I will let you know for sure next week, until then, he wants me to act like that is what it is ... which is probably ok, since I can't run anyway (I try daily -- and I poke it pretty much every morning to see if it hurts in exactly the same place ;-) ).

By the way, thanks everyone, I am reminding myself every day that I am lucky, and I know this too shall pass ... I am just sort of down today.
