10 mile: 1:13:35 (2009) (1:12:15 split in 1/2 marathon, 2011)

marathon: 3:19:15 (2013)

Short-Term Running Goals:

3:20 marathon - Eugene Marathon, April 28, 2013 (can I say I really want a sub 3:20? but I will be happy with 3:20-3:23) -- whoohoo!

Some good intermediate races 15K - 1/2 marathon, to gauge my fitness level (done this, hit a 1:34:35 1/2 marathon in March 2013, on a hilly course)

Going after my 10 mile PR in Fall 2013

Maybe some good 10K races after the infernal Arizona summer is over!

Long-Term Running Goals:

I want to be one of those runners who is still running in their 80s (or 90s?).  You know the ones, who look all grisley and fit?  That is what I would like!  Until then, I just want to work hard and be as fast as I can, for as long as I can.

1:26:06.  Ran from my office to City Creek Canyon and back on the Bonneville Shoreline Trail.  Probably slightly longer than 9 miles, but not quite 9.5.  The trail part was hard (well, so were the hills up from Poppington Park!) - it has been a while since I have run on them.  Very pretty day today!

I have made an announcement - sort of - that some of you might have seen.  Dean and I will be moving to Tucson in October.  A completely unexpected turn of events from a professional standpoint - last January I was invited to give a talk at the University of Arizona.  Well, it was a suprise when a few days later they invited me to apply for a  position there - and they had an opening that was particularly suited for Dean as well.  We love living in Salt Lake, and I really like the people I work with, but my position is not a good fit for my background and interests.  So - we followed up on their invitation and after a lot of soul searching have decided to make the move.  I am going to miss Salt Lake City a lot - I really do love it here -- and, I will miss being close to my blogger friends (though I will now be closer to another set of blogger friends).

I will be trying to participate in a few local races before we leave -- and I hope I can spend some quality time with some of you before we actually move -- which I will remind you is not for another 4 months or so, so we have plenty of time!!

Have a nice day bloggers.

I had seen some suspicious comments about AZ., but didn't know exactly what was going on! Congratulations! That is awesome when they come to you and offer Dean a great job too! Trade in all that cold weather running gear for all the air conditioning bills.

Bonnie - how exciting! You're becoming almost like us - making drastic moves :). Now you will be pretty close to Greg, and I imagine, could go visit him in Flagstaff any weekend! Winter running should be great, but summers are a different story. You are an early riser though, so you'll probably run at 5AM and beat the heat. I have one running relative in AZ from my husband's side, and she says she just gets up early and does her run, not too bothered by the heat.

Thank you Kim, now I am inspired to drive out some Saturday and run with you!!!

Maria, I think your moves are much more drastic (we are only moving a day away this time!!). It will be nice to be closer to Greg (about 3 1/2 hours) - and it will be cooler in Flagstaff than in Tucson. I am actually not a morning person by nature, it is a constant battle for me. But, I think it will be easier to handle the heat earlier, so that is what I will get used to doing (during the summer anyway!).

Bonnie, what do you and Dean teach?

I am getting used to the heat, and Phoenix is always hotter than Tucson. I think the key will be to consistently run in the mornings throughout the temperature rise, so the body gradually acclimates. So far so good (ask me again in August, though)! Luckily, you won't have to worry about that until next year!

Hi Shauna!

Dean teaches statistics, I teach biostatistics (he will be in the math department at U of A, I will be in the college of public health). They actually have asked us to team teach a class our first semester!

I have heard that Tucson is "cooler" than Phoenix, but in my opinion once it is over 100 a few degrees don't really matter -- maybe I will change my tune once I experience it ;-).

Good luck in your acclimation quest!!

Whoa...impressive. I haven't taken math since high school! How fun to teach a class together.

You're right that anything over 100 degrees is hot, no matter how you slice it. BUT, there is quite a difference between 105 and 115 degrees...not that anyone should be outside to experience it!

Congratulations!! What a great opportunity. I personally love the heat and wish it would warm up here.

Congratulations on the new job opportunities for you and Dean. I am sure you will be missed in SLC too. But remember, the FRB is all over so we expect to see you on the blog.

Thanks Jeff! I am excited (although sort of dreading the summers a bit). Life takes some interesting turns sometimes!
