6:45AM 70F 70% humidity. Drove to the American Tobacco Trail again. I did my Half Marathon on it. I started strong but the last miles were not easy. On average I did 7:54 pace which is great. I "broke" my PR again but it's an unofficial time.

As you can see I did very well the first 7 miles but not too well after that. But I'm happy with breaking again the HM time.

Yesterday marathon was amazing! Those guys at the front! Wow! 2:06 in those conditions is amazing. Poor guy at the 4th place lost his medal at the last meters. He just hit the wall so hard he couldn't care less about the medal.

Wow. Good job Arie - running those splits by yourself is great- you could run much faster with other people around (I bet at least 30 secs/mile maybe as much as a minute/mile).

Was the trail dirt?

Great run, Arie.

When's your next race? It looks like you're close to being ready!

From Arie Beresteanu on Mon, Aug 25, 2008 at 10:59:05

Bonnie: The American Tobacco Trail (ATT) is part of the "rail to trail" program and the part of the ATT that I run is actually asphalt paved but it has fairly wide and flat margins on which I run. These margins are indeed trail like surface. This part of the ATT starts at Durham's tobacco district where the old tobacco factories used to be and it goes all the way south to the tobacco fields of NC. Other parts of the ATT are only trail and I would love to run them one day.

Cory: My next race is actually a 5K on September 6th. I perhaps don't need so many miles a week for a 5K but I also have a 10K in mid November. I'm not sure I'll be able to PR in my upcoming 5K, it's going to be still very hot and very humid (they have 8:30 start time). In the speed work I have done in the last few weeks I was not able to go much below the 7 minutes per mile. Hopefully after tapering next week and with race day excitement I'll find my speed again.
