I popped right out of bed and got dressed for my run this morning. That's unusual lately! Maybe it was because I was looking forward to entering my run on this blog, or maybe it was because I had planned to run off base this morning. I usually only run off-base on weekends.

We are supposed to leave here 1 month from today! Tomorrow night the other 2nd grade teachers are having a going-away dinner for me at a restaurant called Transit Cafe. It's always easier for me to find things on foot than in the car, so I decided to run there today. It was easy to find, and about a mile and a half away from my house. Once I got there, I slowed down a lot while I ran around looking for a parking space. Parking in Okinawa is crazy. The crazy thing about it is that it barely exists! I thought maybe the restaurant had a little parking lot in the next block or something, but it looks like I'll have to try my luck with street parking. Anyway, I ended up a little bit lost, but as long as I can find my way back to the seawall, I'm alright. I hopped onto the seawall and thought about what I'll miss when we leave Okinawa. We've been here 3.5 years and it really is time to move on, but I've loved running along the seawall, and watching the surfers.  It's so peaceful...even moreso on a weekday like today. I had the seawall to myself for a while.

When I got back on base, I decided that if I finished the 4th mile in 9:45 or under I could call it a day and head straight to my house, but if not I'd make myself tack on a mile loop. I was 4 seconds too slow... I thought it might have been because of the time that I spent showing my ID to the gate guard, but did the 5th mile anyway!

Way to go on doing the 5th mile, I would have said the time was close enough!

So, where are you coming back to?

From Tracy on Sun, Dec 07, 2008 at 22:21:55

You will find that this blog is a good place. The nice thing is that you have something holding you accountable to running!

I do that same thing--giving myself rewards if I meet goal times. Inevitably the reward is less running, and sometimes even if I do get my goal time, I still guilt myself into running more!

From Kelli on Sun, Dec 07, 2008 at 23:21:49

My reward is always ice cream, not good!!!!!

Welcome to the Blog. You sound like a real world traveler.

From Kelli on Mon, Dec 08, 2008 at 23:21:38

I just read through this entire post thinking it was new and just Deja vu, but NOPE!!! You must be a day ahead of us!

BTW, I was a school teacher at one time, too! I NEVER managed to work and work out, so you are way ahead of me!!!

From Teena on Tue, Dec 09, 2008 at 00:37:00

Welcome to the blog!

What fun marathons you have ran!! How cool is that?

From Smooth on Tue, Dec 09, 2008 at 15:02:54

WELCOME to the blog. Do you teach 2nd graders on the base? You've run some cool marathons. What race(s) are you training for next?

From Becca on Tue, Dec 09, 2008 at 18:10:03

I just realized that I can post a reply here instead of answering your questions via the comments on your own blog. I'm still learning!

Thanks everyone for the warm welcomes!

Kelli, yes we are a day ahead here! Do you want to know what happens tomorrow? ;)

Smooth, yes I teach on base. I worked at an off-base school when we first got here while I waited to be picked up by the base schools. That was a GREAT experience!

The next marathon I'm wanting to do is the Sun-something Hall of Fame to Notre Dame marathon in South Bend IN in May. It's near my hometown, so I'll be able to plan a visit with my family, and my 101-year-old aunt was a huge Notre Dame fan...she just passed away about a week ago...I'd like to do that "for" her.

From Smooth on Tue, Dec 09, 2008 at 18:21:09

That's so cool! I'm sure you'll have a great time dedicating that marathon to your aunt. She must have been quite a special lady, 101 yr old, how grand and blessed!!!

So, you'll be taking a leave in a month to visit family in the U.S.? Or is your husband getting an assignment somewhere else?

From Becca on Tue, Dec 09, 2008 at 18:26:10

My husband is getting a new assignment, so we're leaving here. Things are still up in the air right now because of the nature of his assignment. He's going on a one-year unaccompanied assignment. The Air Force can't decide what they should do with me during that time! I'll be home with my family for at least a month...and that's all I know for almost-certain right now!

From Smooth on Tue, Dec 09, 2008 at 18:31:25

One year to be apart from your beloved must be hard. Thank goodness for family support, isn't it. Best of luck.

From Meadow on Tue, Dec 09, 2008 at 18:32:40

Welcome and good job on sticking with your plan and adding that extra mile.

From Kelli on Tue, Dec 09, 2008 at 18:35:06

I would like to know how cold it is going to be tomorrow in Utah. Could you work on that for me????

From Jodi on Tue, Dec 16, 2008 at 19:25:28

Becca - The marathon you're talking about is the Sunburst. This year is June 6, 2009. www.sunburstraces.org if you wanta check it out.

They also have a half marathon called the Holy Half, no finisher medal but you run entirely on the Notre Dame Campus. Around the first week of April.

From Becca on Tue, Dec 16, 2008 at 21:13:14

Jodi--thanks for the info! The half marathon does sound like a good one, but I'll have to keep an eye on the dates, looks like I'll probably be involved in moving at that time.
