A rough day today, but a win nonetheless eh.. with some cash and a nice Swiss made watch to wear home. I woke up yesterday and had a nice little tickle in the back of my throat and by night time a sore throat and runny nose! Oh yeah, Murphy's law at it's finest I thought. But I had made the commitment to run and I knew I had a pretty good chance for first, so I went anyway. The first 12-13 miles were great and I really thought I could just keep going forever at a good clip. But by 18 it became clear I was not going to get the time I wanted. Oh well I thought, and with Sasha's help pacing and holding the Gator bottle I managed to make it home with a respectable time.  All in all a good run on a really scenic course. I only hope I have some legs for next week! So everyone bring your turning fork as you may be scraping up some roadkill next Saturday.

I have to say by the way I have never seen a race director go out of their way like Hyrum Oaks did on this race. He overcame some pretty tough obstacles to put this race on. And he even gave me a personal tour of the course the day before. Way to go Hyrum!     Dark Horse out....

Thanks everyone, I appreciate all the great comments. James, my biggest competitor was me yesterday and in a way he is always the hardest one to beat.

Congregation on wining you race, that is awesome. I was just wondering if you received the e-mail I sent to your Gmail account?

From Sasha Pachev on Mon, Apr 14, 2008 at 08:34:08

Steve - some food for thought. The fear and trepidation you instill into a barely sub-3:00 marathoner (who is beating the BQ standard by 10 minutes) that sees you at the start of a race is of the same magnitude that you experience when you consider having to race Haile. This race was an good demonstration of it. You won by over 19 minutes in spite of being sick!

From Chad on Mon, Apr 14, 2008 at 11:49:23

Great race, Steve. This was a well-deserved victory (and a nice pay day too.)
