Easy 9 miles this morning at 7:30ish avg pace.   Out to 106th via the trax loop and back up.  Heart rate was a little high today.  Gee.. I wonder why.  My hours at work are cut yet again to 16 total.  Some economic recovery we have here..

Ouch, i am sorry to hear about work cutting you back so much. Other than that how are you doing?

Hi Barry! I'm doing pretty good actually. I am at peace about this and I know God will help me overcome as long as I am faithful. Sorry I haven't said much lately, how are things for you? Is your job recovering? Or are you still having setbacks at work?

Sounds like you have a peace that surpasses all understanding. Or in other words you are putting Faith into action, and that is an awesome place to be. I am doing good, i am getting ready for my last 1/2 in November and feeling pretty good about it. I am running more speed drills, which is what i think i was lacking. Running more speed drills really helped me for the Pocatello 1/2 marathon. Work is back to normal, which makes the wife happy, but i am still looking for another job. Kory is trying to help me get a job at ISU working a help desk job. Also, when you get a chance i would like to ask you what you think i should do for my winter months of training? But no big hurry for an answer, just something i have been thinking about.

Barry, If I were you I would definitely take that job in a heartbeat if you can get it. As for winter base; After you recover from your half I would seriously just run for fun until January. While you are doing that, work on speed like a sprinter or an 800 meter guy in December. But keep your legs fresh! Now you have some functional speed.. In January back off from the speedwork and start building distance again with short aerobic runs of say 35-40 min in length at 65-75% max heart rate. Start building a long run on Saturday starting with an hour and a half or so of easy jogging increasing every other week by 5 minutes or so. Feb-Do the same but stay at 2 hrs for the long run and start doing 6-10 medium effort pickups once a week of say 1 minute in length with COMPLETE RECOVERY.. No lactic acid build up!

The point is to build a BIG aerobic engine to work with later on. But doing the kind of speedwork that builds up lactic acid will only inhibit the production of aerobic enzymes in your muscle cells.

Then ask me agin in March.. Any questions?

Again, keep the legs fresh with minimum distance during December. Say, 3-6 miles of easy jogging on days where you are not doing speed or sprint training.
