Easy run out on Potash road along side the river and some petroglyphs.  Wow!  Absolutely beautiful out here.  Passed by a mile long column of Jeeps headed out to the rim to do some serious climbing.  Man what a sight, its like an adult playground out here.   Definitely a rave run..   Darkhorse out.

Steve, when you get time could you please give me some advice on warm up time before a race or just in general? I get winded early but with a pretty long warm up I surprise myself with my pace.I just seem to get faster with less effort.Make sense?? Oh yea, those relaxing runs help me also.Sounds like beautiful country.

The long warmup allows things to come into their aerobic state easier and more gradual. Its plain easier on the body. Studies show that 12 minutes of very slow warmup is needed to get into a good aerobic state with the body. For half marathon and up if I were you I would just run an easy mile before and then gradually groove into things starting out comfortable, increasing the pace in gradual increments letting the body adjust and come to homeostasis. Then again another small increase in pace until you get to where you are in a "comfortably hard" running state. This where its tough but you can still talk with some difficulty.Hold that pace for the rest of the race. Does this help?

Steve, I wish. Whenever I try to run faster than 7min pace my knee hurts the whole next day. For now I'll just be happy with running mileage. I thought about doing Des10K in July but with the knee pain I may not race much at all this year. I really want to run TOU and am about 75% committed. However, I will make up my mind for sure before the entry fee goes up Aug 15th.

Thanks Steve. But don't think it is too bad. I can still run and I'm enjoying it (at least today was great). I have come to realize though that competition is more a part of my love of running than I've admitted to in the past. That being said this is probably God's way of telling me that other things in my life need my primary focus this year (growing family and career). In any case thank you for your prayers. Should I keep my eyes open for you on the 18th? I'll be somewhere along the course. I was planning on volunteering at mile 2 but I think I may run to a couple spots closer to SH and enjoy more of the race. Not sure who is running it with all the anti-Devine stuff going on at the moment.
