AM-Steady state run with last 6 miles at 6-sub 6/min pace. 16 miles total.  SLC marathon course.  Feeling stronger just not speedy..

PM- Easy 6 mile jog after lunch on 7th out and back.   Spring break is awesome.. I can't believe the weather in March this year.  Gorgeous and Unreal!  Except for yesterday afternoon..

PM2-Easy 7 this evening on the JRT.  Ran into Demetrio on the trail and had a good conversation about the old days and the upcoming circuit.  Time really flew by on this one but also felt out of gas which is good because that's what I wanted to accomplish today.  The goal is to somehow build the body's ability to store glycogen.

I can't believe Spring break is almost over!

It's nice to not FREEZE outside, but I'm need another at least 15 degrees before I say it's nice outside :)

AMAZING run, and way to hit those paces as well. In my humble and uneducated opinion I feel the strength you build through training and the speed comes with the taper. I mean you have to do speed too, but I really feel SO much faster out on race day than even during speed work pushes! SO, maybe I'm just hoping it's this way.

Rachel, because of my work and school schedule I mainly run in the late morning and afternoon. I am a bit chilly at first on some days but once warmed up it has rarely been a problem.. March this year has been pretty good weather wise so far.

As to what you said earlier about speed, I do agree. Speed comes with strength and endurance over time. However, that does not mean you get to just run easy every day.. Speedwork has it's proper place in every program. It teaches economy, enables better muscle fiber recruitment etc. By the way I have to say I am impressed by the determination you have shown in getting the work done especially on your long runs. Way to go Rachel!

Are you planning on running the Salt Lake Marathon?

From steve ash on Thu, Mar 17, 2011 at 17:56:43 from 67.166.103.179

A big maybe. It is tempting though.. I have other things planned also that I need to consider like UVM and the circuit.

Wow, impressive week of running...that is some sick mileage to have accummulated by only Thursday!

From steve ash on Thu, Mar 17, 2011 at 20:29:22 from 67.166.103.179

It was fun.. More for myself to know I could do it:)

Bill Rodgers did it on a regular basis and Gerry Lindgren did 200 plus on occasion or so I've heard. A lot of it is just in your head but wow.. recovery time is so important to be able to pull it off on a regular basis. And you have to sleep! I'm not sure I could pull this off week after week.

You could do it also Jeff. You have the training background for sure.
