A nice toasty jaunt jaunt through the asphalt jungle this afternoon.  Ran some fartlek at the end for 5 miles dropping just below LT pace then backing off for a minute or so.  No rigid splits, just applied effort.  80-90% mhr for the last 5 miles.   12 miles total with first 6 at 7:00-8/min pace to keep heart rate down.  12 miles total.   Thermometer showing a 101 degree reading at the school.

Nice toasty run, Steve. I actually wore my heart rate monitor today!

From Ashbaker on Thu, Aug 13, 2009 at 11:25:33 from 98.98.27.230

Thats good Maurine, what did you learn from it today?

From Maurine/Tarzan on Thu, Aug 13, 2009 at 12:35:05 from 63.255.172.2

You didn't tell me there would be a test on it!

Not as much as I would have learned on a normal day. Since I was constantly adjusting the pace the last two tempo miles I couldn't get a steady reading to go by.

However, I did find that my heart rate it almost lower at 11 mm than at 12 mm - which probably means I run more economically at that pace. What do you think?

Great miles your putting in Steve. Keep up the consistent build and I can really see you achieving a huge PR in the marathon.

Maurine-I don't know. Sorry.. Your reasoning is logical but uncertain. Could be you brake more on your heel at slower speeds?

Kory-Thanks buddy. I hope we both do, You and I both need a breakthrough. It's definitely been a while.

Maurine-I was hoping that it would tell you to train in a cooler environment. At least until your aerobic development has progressed a little farther. This heat sends mine over the top a lot of the time!

From Ashbaker on Thu, Aug 13, 2009 at 22:17:34 from 76.27.0.45

Sorry, Not trying to sound like I know it all..

From Maurine/Tarzan on Thu, Aug 13, 2009 at 23:40:20 from 97.117.63.224

The problem is - I was running inside on the treadmill - so heat was not a factor. Plus I had just come off a major bonk from not eating enough calories in the day. So, bottom line, I need to do more regular training with the monitor to really learn from it.
