Same time up. Seemed slightly warmer 8F/0F. Commute run via Memory Grove and a little extra up City Creek to get some mileage. On the way down to MG I warmed up a little too much but the extra heat was nice while headed up the canyon. Then to top it all off I finished the run with a Chad sighting in the last miles and still made it into work by 7am. Avg. 8:44 HR 143

Tomorrow already ends week one of my 18 wk training routine. I do not feel in as good as shape as in '08 but there is still a long time to go. I'm happy that the mileage hasn't caused additional pain on the knee. I'm trying a few different things this time around. 1. Sit-ups and push-ups every night, 2. A number of 20+ miles at least 10 if not a full 18, 3. On Paul's advice quick runs (with the cold and snow these have been my treadmill miles). 4. I'm hoping to work in more speedwork than I have the last 18 months but between the cold/snow etc we shall see. Things I'm keeping the same is that I'm shooting for almost the exact same mileage in the '08 training period ~1300. It is 8 and tonight is the department Christmas party so time to get some work done...

You got to work by 7 with 11 miles already in the bank? Wow. Do you think the race is still on for tomorrow? I have not and may never acclimate to this weather.

My assumption is yes. But due to some family things I don't think I'm going to be able to make it. I need to be done by ~9am. We'll see. I'm sure it won't be a race per se and more a training run with a bit more excitement... As far as the cold goes I keep telling myself it could be worse we could be in ID or MN...

Jeff, I will have to admit that thinking of you or Kory outside in the cold you have motivates me not to complain about the cold we've been having. Especially since last year you had it so much worse than us.

Rexburg has actually been warmer than IF and Pocatello this week! Jackson Hole, Driggs and Island Park...they hit -22 F air temp before wind chill! That is cold!

Jeff, I can't even imagine that cold. The worst I've run in was WI and that was -13F before windchill but another 10 degrees below that...

My PR is -22 F(-30 C) in Moscow in 1991. I ran only 4 miles. With three layers of clothing it was not too bad. It was around the time the rumors were circulating about the KGB generals plotting a coup against Gorbachev. So I had something pleasant to contemplate during the run as well.

With only three layers that is pretty impressive. I had 4-5 depending on the body part.

Adam, I.....will plan to be there but my fingers are not going to like me. The race will be more about survival than speed so I will be fine with something between 1:05 and 1:10. If I were you I would use any excuse I could find to not show up.

Fritz, That sounds reasonable. I also contacted Chad on the blog about this and he recommended it. I called my wife and think I may make this work. It will be good to run with people I do too much training on my own.
