Pitbulls are not your friends. Did a long run on the marathon course. Starting with my usual mile 3 on. Around mile 7 into my run (~9MM) I hear a dog coming up fast behind me. I turn around to see a pitbull going full speed toward me. It is funny how the mind works but I first stop my watch then I run into some landscaping. There is a medal post that I immediately try and rip out of the ground as I turn and start yelling back off at the top of my lungs. I can get the post out so I next pick up a ceramic pot. I'm just about to launch the pot at the dog when I guy comes running out and gets the dog. He's like "sorry man" and walks away. I was so high on adrenaline I just kept going and didn't say anything else. This is a road I've run down dozens of times in the past without problems. The next mile was my fasted of the run 6:40. The rest of the run I tried to stay between 7-8 min pace. The slowest was the first mile at 8:22. Otherwise the other 19 mi were all in my target range. The last four miles I picked it up a bit and did them in 7:09, 7:01, 7:19 (underpass by 80), and 7:01. Overall a good training run. My goal was to run the 21 mi today in my goal time for this spring (<2:39) so at 2:37.01 I'm happy with the effort. Avg. 7:28 HR 150

Great run! Another dog story to go with Kory's from earlier this week...and a pit bull at that.

Nice job, have a great weekend!

seeaprilrun had a NICE dog story this week... I sure hope I have the strength to rip out a metal post in case of an emergency. Way to go on a 21 miler. Hope to run a 20 next week. Thinking about the SLC marathon...? not sure. I should though. A good training run as you wrote :D. Hope you break that 2:30 barrier!!! I am going for under 3. I really think I can, at least once.

Pitbulls I hate them. I got attacked last week on a run from a pitbull. Nice run and mileage this week. Your progress and your knee is really progressing to the positive side.

I hope work is going well for you?

Wow! Great run!

From Adam RW on Sat, Nov 28, 2009 at 16:46:30 from 24.10.175.42

Jeff, It was fun. It is strange that both Kory and I got attacked by the same type of dog. Sounds like my experience was a little less dangerous though.

Jon, Wasn't it you who was cornered by two Rots a couple months back? Definitely not the type of excitement we need on our runs.

Julie, It is nice to see that there are some good dogs out there as well. I had a similar story back in college about a nice dog tagging along for a run. That was right before one of my teammates got a piece taken out of her behind by a different dog. I guess there is a balance of dogs out there.

Kory, Work is going. This week wasn't as good as the week before but you win some you lose some. I hope you feel better soon.

JD, It was fun. Sounds like there weren't enough cats on your run today though. If there were maybe they could have gotten that bird before it got you :) That has unfortunately happened to me too many times...

Adam, call the police and file a report if you saw where the owner lives. the owner will get a nice fine. and two reports will get the dog put down. I filed a formal police report recently when a pit terrier attacked me and the owners have been very careful to keep it inside now. If it comes after me again it is gone.

those dogs have no place in society.

Better we runners take care of them, by whatever means available, rather than having some small kid get mauled.
