Single: Today was a much better start to the week. 7-hrs sleep, in work at 7am, out for my run ~10:15am. Last week was the most 8-hr sleep nights “ever”. This week is going to be tougher for that as I have two deadlines, one Fri and one Mon that have to be met but seeing how much better I feel after the rest last week I’ll try and stick to at least 7hrs sleep. Today was just beautiful out. It was sunny, warm, with a slight cool breeze, just great to be outside and alive. I did my usual run to City Creek and back. The best part of today’s run was that my internal Garmin was reset today, every split I “called out” within 5 seconds. It felt nice going at the perceived pace as opposed to the death marches of last week. Mi 8-R2 Avg. 7:45 HR 140

Hi Adam, It is great you are starting your tough week with some "sleep stores"! I had some great "catch-up" this weekend as well, but did not sleep very well last night, partly because I think I ran a little hard yesterday and partly because I was worried about all the work I have due this week!! I too still feel better than I have for a while (sleep-wise).

Good luck this week.

Nice run Adam. I'm glad the rest has benefited you for this week. Hopefully your deadlines will not compromise your sleep.

What's your mileage strategy this week for mileage? I'm going to start to cut back a bit this week to get ready for SLC marathon. I'll do an easy 20 miler, and a tempo run, and the rest just easy runs.

I got a few 8 hour sleep nights last week myself, mostly because of some days off. I definitely need more of them.

I believe if we all could get at least 8 hours of sleep, and have naps during the day, (in a perfect world), I bet we would see a significant gain in our performance.

We all need to become our own boss.

Maybe a run up and down city creek canyon this saturday?

Amen to Kory's comment by the way.

Adam, the anecdote that you are looking for is in Jeff Galloway's first book on running. I'm just not sure what the title is though as it's been so long.

From Adam RW on Tue, Mar 25, 2008 at 21:47:59

Steve, It's "Galloway's Book on Running" (1984). I don't have that one in my library yet but I'll have a look at it. I was starting to worry about overtraining myself last week as I pushed myself to my most 80+ mile weeks ever in a 3-month period. The rest week last week and the run today have seemed to smooth over both the physical and mental aspects though...
