Single: I knew this was going to be a tougher work week. Two nights in a row with only 6hrs sleep. So I forewent my planned speedwork today. I had tossed around the idea of trying for a 4:30 mile down Memory Grove, 200s on the track, or the Black Sheep hill workout. I also knew that all my mileage had to be in this one run do to some additional work obligations in the evening. So in the end though I had to get into work by 6am but did manage to get half of my bench work done by 9:30 and out the door. What a difference three hours can make, it was already 72F when I started and was 85F by the time I finished. I did a mostly trail and mostly uphill run. This was a new loop I thought up that actually was uphill both ways. I started up Dry Creek over to City Creek. Then there is a steep decline into City Creek and I continued down into Memory Grove then back my normal side street route with 6x1/2 block strides. I think only 2-3 miles of the entire run were down while the rest was up. I guess the old stories of how your grandparents walked to school uphill both ways could be true… Mi 12-T2 Avg. 8:50

Nice run--Cucina in reverse.

From Adam RW on Tue, Jun 17, 2008 at 17:42:35

Chad, That is what inspired it. I forgot the "best" part. I saw two large snakes on the run. Both near the spot were Sam split off when we ran last. The first was about 2ft long and was green moving fast across the path. The second was about 3ft long lying in a perfect line along the path. I caught it out of the corner of my eye came back and got up right next to it. It just ignored me enjoying the sun. I think it was a gopher snake.

From jtshad on Tue, Jun 17, 2008 at 18:25:26

Adam, how are you getting up to Logan? We are trying to find a way to get back to our truck after the race and are having no luck. Are you catching a ride? Do you have room for 2-3 more people if we were to drive to SLC rather than Logan and catch a ride back to the start?

From Adam RW on Tue, Jun 17, 2008 at 18:46:54

Funny you should ask. As of now I'm planning on riding with Chad. So he probably saw your request. At 10 this morning he had 5 people in his mini-van. Chad's timing worked best for me. But your idea of driving and leaving your car in SLC is probably a good idea. You could leave it at my house if you can squeeze in with Chad or even if you end up getting picked up by Walter or Sasha on their way through town. Let me know and I'll get you my home address. If it ends up making more sense for you and Kory to get picked up at my house by Sasha or Walter and it is not too early I could change vans if Chad wouldn't hold it against me. That way all of us could be dropped off after the race at one spot not too far off I80 which I guess would be the way most people would be leaving Park City. Let me know what you find out.

From Steve on Wed, Jun 18, 2008 at 11:02:29

I'll be riding up with you and Chad. Apparently I am running the Ragnar?? 4 miles straight uphill.

From Adam RW on Wed, Jun 18, 2008 at 11:11:25

That's great news :). I'll see you Friday at Wild Oats. Great going with Leg 34. I have 33 which isn't quite as bad but still a beast. I think my leg is 7.6% grade for 3.7 miles and your leg is 7.9% grate for 4 miles. I guess welcome to hazing the new guy!!!

From Jon on Wed, Jun 18, 2008 at 11:25:56

Hate to burst your bubble, Adam, but You've Got To Be Kidding (leg 33) is agruably harder than Ragnar- leg 33 has .5 mile flat, but then climbs 1400 ft in 3 miles, while Ragnar climbs 1600 ft in 4 miles. So you have slightly less climbing and 25% shorter climb, but steeper...

Enjoy!

From jtshad on Wed, Jun 18, 2008 at 11:28:09

Glad it is you guys and not me!

From Steve on Wed, Jun 18, 2008 at 12:21:58

Maybe I will just get drunk before I run that leg. I will need the extra calories and carbs, right? No light beer for me.

From Jon on Wed, Jun 18, 2008 at 12:37:13

Drunk is good- Just make sure you don't have to stop 8 times on the way up to take a leak. Might slow you down a bit :)

Actually, Ragnar is tiring but I think leg 35 is more painful- they have to run down a very steep 2000 ft over 7 miles. I'm not sure which I would rather do- tired or pain? Both are hard, though your first 2 legs are fairly easy so you should be ready!

Steve, last year there was someone running up Ragnar wearing only shoes and some whitey-tighty (sp?) underwear. Clyde made sure to pass him. If he runs again, don't let him beat you!

From Adam RW on Wed, Jun 18, 2008 at 13:17:26

Jon, Didn't you hear the whitey-tighty uniform is the "white" teams garb this year! I picked up 12 pairs last night for the team...

From Adam RW on Wed, Jun 18, 2008 at 13:22:27

Steve, I think you, Jeff, and I will have to get some margaritas at the finish!

From Jon on Wed, Jun 18, 2008 at 13:33:26

Adam, that is the funniest thing I have read in a long time, though the mental pictures may scar me forever. Does Sasha know? I'm trying imagine him agreeing to his... :) I will buy you guys dinner or drinks or something if you seriously run the whole race wearing only whitey-tightys! Maybe you could write FRB and SGRC on your chests in paint so they still get their advertising.

From jtshad on Wed, Jun 18, 2008 at 13:40:13

I hope the beer garden opens early!

What is the blue teams uniform, then? Could be just as scary or even more so!

From Chad on Wed, Jun 18, 2008 at 13:43:01

Tighty Whitey's and Crocs. Glad I stayed Blue!

From Chad on Wed, Jun 18, 2008 at 13:44:19

Blue Team is wearing Bad News Bears baseball uniforms.

From Jon on Wed, Jun 18, 2008 at 14:37:23

With the baseball cleats, stirrup pants, and hats? Awesome! Much better than whitey's.

From Adam RW on Wed, Jun 18, 2008 at 14:52:09

How about the hot pink shorts on the Sasha running .gif?

From jtshad on Wed, Jun 18, 2008 at 15:47:24

The blue team should wear the uniform Nuke Laloosh wore on the mound in "Bull Durham" instead.

From Adam RW on Wed, Jun 18, 2008 at 16:01:58

There was one outfit I saw at Del Sol at the second exchange. Maybe you can remember it as I don't think I could describe it on the blog... However, if we ALL wore that :)

From jtshad on Wed, Jun 18, 2008 at 16:12:16

Yeah, I remember that one...quite the eyecatcher, especially for the ladies. You think that guy had a self esteem problem or what?

From Adam RW on Wed, Jun 18, 2008 at 16:16:45

Jeff, It was sure frightening but probably no less scary than if we were all in in tighty whities...

Man I have taper madness and I'm not even cutting back on my mileage much. But my mind has sure not been on work today. That and I only have computer work to do today so it is so easy to reply to each and every comment versus staring at AGCTACGTACTAGGCATACCTAGCGATACGTAACGTACG... You have to love DNA!

From Jon on Wed, Jun 18, 2008 at 16:22:07

Ok, you guys better give us a hint of this outfit...

From Adam RW on Wed, Jun 18, 2008 at 16:26:42

Let's just say it "looked" like he was wearing less than tighty whities...

From jtshad on Wed, Jun 18, 2008 at 16:28:00

And he was definitely compensating for something...

From dave holt on Thu, Jun 19, 2008 at 12:54:43

The classics line: Steve H., "Sasha did you see that guy! Pretty crazy, huh?" Sasha, "Humph. Yeah."

I'm still laughing!

From josse on Thu, Jun 19, 2008 at 17:49:36

Good luck all you crazy cats! Puma's are what I'm talking about. GRRRRR
