Early morning. I had my heart rate monitor on just out of bed and it was reading between 37 and 42 bpm. Then out the door and it went up to 120 in the first block. The heart is amazing. I did a commute run in to work to the Firehouse mile and hit it in 5:06. It felt harder than it should have but it was ok. Avg. 8:36 HR141

Whats the percentage decline grade for that mile? I hope you have a good weekend and try to stay cool in the heat. Which is very tough this time of year.

Hey Adam great resting H/R when I am fit and feeling ok mine can be as low as 33, but low heart rate runs in my family my dad smokes is over 65 and has a hr of 40, he used to be a runner when he was young though.

Again great work out and great mile I am jealous of that mile :) Do you not need more than 6 hrs sleep or is that ok for you ??

Kory,

I’ve put the mile on the course tool if interested… It estimates the average grade at -2.9%.

Some of my FireHouse Miles: The two most recent I used the cross walk line as my start so they should be pretty comparable. The others were wherever the 2-mile split form lab happened to come that day…

5:06 7/17/09 203 ft dwn

5:00 7/10/09 209 ft dwn

5:01 6/25/09 179 ft dwn

5:03 5/13/08 199 ft dwn

4:51 3/7/08 176 ft dwn PR

The faster miles I train on are the City Creek (4:48 PR with 272 ft down) and Memory Grove (4:50 PR with 213 ft down but crazy down) miles but they are a bit rougher on the legs as the down portions are steeper.

My fastest mile to date was the first mile at the Magna 5K last year in a 4:44 with 152ft down and competition. All other miles above were solo.

Thanks for the question. It was fun to look back over these numbers and think about my training and fitness both last year and this year.

Sam,

I've been averaging 5.5 to 6.5. I think I function best at 7 but between family and work If I got that much it would be my running time gone.

oooh I need so much more LOL

Those are nice and fast. They are also amazingly consistent. When I am injury free again I'll have to go out there and hammer one out.
