Day off. I spent some time last night looking over the marathon results. It is nice to reflect a little, I can't believe it was only a week ago. It seems like much longer. The toughest thing I'm dealing with now is deciding what the next marathon will be. For 8-years now I've only done one marathon a year. I've done this for a bunch of reasons but I'm strongly considering doing two this year. In any case it is cool to have finished 8th, in my 8th marathon, in 2008... I added a table to my marathon post for anyone interested. It takes a look at all my splits versus predicted along with average heart rate/pace/and elevation changes. Numbers are only as accurate as the Garmin but I still find them fun to look at...

Hi Adam! I was reading over your blog today (supposed to be working!) -- and wanted to respond to your post a week or so ago about orthotics. Dean used orthotics for almost 8 years and now is running in Nike Free's. It took almost 2 years for him to get all of the biomechanical "issues" worked out -- what he did (and still does occasionally) was run 3-4 miles a couple days a week barefoot on the grass. My understanding is that it helps build up the stablizer muscles in the foot and ankle that get weak after a long time in orthotics. If you are interested, I will give you his email and you can talk about it (or better yet, you two could run together sometime and talk about it - he works up at Huntsman).

Close by, although I pronate I have recently worked my way down to running in the Nike Zoom Haywards - I love them, and my PF is almost completely healed. The only "downside" is that my quads get tired when I wear them on runs longer than about 10 miles -- but I suspect that this too will pass and ultimately I will be much less prone to injury than when I wear shoes that have a high heal and are too stablizing.

Bonnie, Thank you for the info. Definitely get me in touch with Dean. Work was painful today. It is tough to live like a college freshman in your 30s. I have to find a way to not be up to midnight preparing talks... I guess old habits die hard.

Kory, I'm excited about the prospect but I haven't committed to anything yet. Though I'm sure I will. Very excited for Ogden for you and the 100 other bloggers it appears are running it!

I think you definitely have another marathon in you this year. There are a lot of good fall marathons to consider.

I've never done more than 1 marathon, either, but this year I'm planning to do Ogden and St. G on the road, plus 2 trail marathon or longer runs (Logan peak run and Mid Mountain Marathon). I'm justifying it because my mileage will be much higher than ever before (i.e. better shape), and cause trails don't beat me up. 2 road marathons are very do-able for you, esp. if your second is in the fall rather than early summer.

I find your marathon splits interesting- very consistent, which helped PR. Being a tad fast miles 3-8 might have cost you a few seconds in the last few miles, but it looks like you ran a great, steady race. Normal HR increase at the end as you were fatigued. Was the last .2 a bit long on your GPS?

Jon, The last .2 came out as .3. Overall seeing the splits like that made me feel better about the race as a whole. The only thing I would have changed was to take an additional Gu at mile 21-22. Great job on the race Sat. It looks like you will be back and in tip-top form for the Marathon in no time.
