I accidentally ran 100 miles in November 2013.  it was hard.  I threw up a lot.  decided to do a better job next time

I did it again on purpose October 2014--Heartland 100 winner and CR 17:38:37

Sub 3 hour marathon--SOMEDAY!  Done!

Personal:

I was a single mom.  Two times over.  We all survived, despite the fact that I make atrocious decisions.  Then, I met a man I didn't deserve.  And he loves me so much.  And I love him. We lived in sin and bought a house for two years then hired a judge and officially got married(to our great delight and also the delight of our mothers), then a month later he was diagnosed with cancer.  Well we survived all that and he's 100% fine now.  But, we're really out of shape and really busy with kids and jobs and running just isn't my priority and there's so many other layers to all of it, but I'm running anyway.  This is my failure blog now.  Just to log that one run a week if I snag it.  
Somehow that matters and I want that run recorded.

9:00 AP.  4:30 am, and it was already 83 degrees, 53% humidity, and 30mph south wind.  Love Kansas, really.  Ran easy and hopefully my legs will be fresh for some incline/decline work tomorrow.

April:

I am thinking something along these lines. 8 miles 5 days a week, 16 on the 6th, all easy pace except for occasional strides and pickups when feeling still nice and fresh towards the end of the run. Do that for the next month. Do not run the 50 K, it will be very disruptive to the training. I suppose you could walk half of it if you really want to be in the event.

Make sure to eat healthy and get a lot of sleep, particularly naps if possible. Remember that you do not get faster from training. A mile time trial before and after a 10 mile run will illustrate that training makes you slower. You get faster from recovery which is triggered by the training, but it is very easy to squash your recovery by simply not doing what it takes to recover. It is like going to a job, doing the work, getting a paycheck and then burning it instead of taking it to the bank. Way too many runners fail to make that critical trip to the bank. Make sure it happens.

Sasha--this is not too far off from what I have been doing. The pickups haven't been often, only when I've felt decent enough to do them or had to pick up the last mile or two due to running out of time. All the easy running has been enjoyable. Recovery is something I was failing at miserably before...but it took me a major injury to really "get" it. I do have an occasional second run in the day, usually at a very slow pace(over 9:00) with my husband and kids. I have also been doing some incline/decline training on the treadmill once weekly and I really, really enjoy it. It makes my legs feel strong and with my inherent short stride and short legs, the fast turnover on the downhill feels natural and fun like I am being propelled down the hill, although it doesn't seem to tax me cardiovascularly--I only live at 1000 feet above seal level or so. My legs aren't trashed or anything the next day although I do feel it somewhat in my hamstrings and calves for a day. As for the 50K, it was on its way out anyway due to a scheduling conflict that has arisen...and I don't want to get injured over it...the plane tickets and hotel to Saint George are to0 expensive to waste! Thanks for the advice. I have more questions...but want to wait and see how things are going in a month. So far no hiccups from the injury whatsoever.

Sasha--thanks, I will let you know. My hotel is a few blocks from the bus loading area...convenient but pricey, maybe too pricey if I cannot recruit some roommates.
