After a 1 mile warm up I started to bump up the pace to see how my leg responds and to test my fitness. Ran 1 mile at MP then 4 miles at tempo pace. Finished with an easy mile to cooldown. I could definitely feel my reduced training. My breathing was much more labored than it should have been. It felt good to get in some quality miles. My calf actually hurt less to run at the faster pace.

Went out the door to a pretty impressive lightning show. Some looked a little too close for comfort. In addition, my calf is a little more sore today. Too many things telling me not to run this morning. I will try to get out tonight if my calf feels better.

A little warm and windy. Ran 7 miles at marathon pace. Since my mileage is down, I am trying to run at a little quicker pace. Calf still hurts but there is some improvement.

4 miles @ marathon pace. Calf hasn't improved much this week. I can maintain marathon pace for a few miles then it really starts to ache. I am hoping that next week's taper for the Park City marathon will allow it to heal.

Nice cool morning run. Still running conservative mileage. I've been about 15-20 miles per week short for the past few weeks. Calf pain stayed consistent throughout the run. This is a good sign. Last week, the pain became unbearble at about mile 11. I noticed at one point during the run that if I turned my right foot inward a little, the pain subsided. I am splay footed so my foot was actually landing more straight. If nothing else, this injury has helped me fix a few flaws in my form. Ran the last 2 miles a little faster than marathon pace and it felt really good.
