WXHS track is under construction so I drove to the Bountiful High track. Warmed up with 2 miles on the track (usually warm up by running to the track). 6 X 1,000M @ 5K pace w/400M jog in between each repeat. Wanted to hold a 6:00 min/mile (3:45 per repeat). Splits were: 3:40, 3:47, 3:45, 3:44, 3:50, 3:45. Really had to work to hold the pace on the last one. Half way through the first turn of the last repeat, I felt a twinge in my left knee. Cooled down with 2 more miles on the track. It was pretty crowded so there was a lot of dodging of other runners/walkers. I think that the knee issue is due to all of the left hand turns. Icing the knee now and hope that it is nothing serious. Will try to do future speed workouts on the road. |
