My Garmin 201 is more than 4 years old and the battery's life is getting shorter and shorter and it is having a more difficult time grabbing satellites so it was time for an upgrade.  Costco had the 305 on sale for $159 yesterday so I picked one up.  The route I ran today was very industrial and I don't think that I will do it again.  I was checking out some of the other trail heads for the LPT and it was very ugly.  The run itself was fine.  My legs started to get a little heavy towards the end.  My heart rate was consistently in the mid 150's for most of the run which I guess is the upper end of my aerobic range.  I haven't tracked my HR at all this year and can't remember if this is consistent with my HR in the past.

Congrats on the upgrade. I think you will be happy with it!

Enjoy your new toy.

Fun new watch Andy. I was so tempted to buy one at Costco this weekend as well. Yet my 205 works perfectly and the 301 (which I gave to my hubby) has seen very little use at all ... practically brand spankin' new. Needless to say, I couldn't justify it. However, I picked up a set of Henckles Knives that were $20 off!! Very cool.

btw, nice mileage.

I can never remember what kind of Garmin I have but it is the really old one with the face that goes half way up your arm. Anyway it still works great so I am staying with it. Maybe when they come out with one that will tell me my pace in head phones while I run I will buy that one. What new features do you think would be cool in a Garmin?

From Andy on Mon, Dec 08, 2008 at 14:41:37

Kathie - Nike and Ipod actually came out with something that does just that: http://www.apple.com/ipod/nike/run.html. It is a foot sensor which I don't like and don't think is as accurate as a GPS but the concept is pretty cool.

I don't leave home w/o my 305. The concept of having it tell you the pace in head phones is only cool if you're right on. I hardly look at my Garmin while running. I think I prefer having a great running partner wearing the thing and telling me the pace.

Andy - Yes I have read about the Nike thingy but I want the same feature in a Garmin. I think I would only want it to tell me my mile splits, I always seem to miss them when I run.

Have fun with the new toy. That alone may help keep getting you out the door for a while.
