All the wind that we've had blew in a lot of cold air.  Went outside then had to go back in to re-dress.  Felt pretty good during the run except my hamstring started to burn towards the end of the run.  I'm going to start icing it to see if that will help alleviate some of the pain.  I guess the approach of ignoring it and hoping it takes care of itself isn't really working.  I wore my FRB jacket during the run and when I got home and took it off a gallon of sweat came pouring out of the sleeves (I know, that is gross).  It is probably good for warm up and cool down but not for longer runs.

Ignoring an injury is not the way to make it go away. Let me know it you need some help with the hamstring.

I have a hard differentiating between a true injury and discomfort. That is why I usually just run through my injuries.

I do the same thing. That said sometimes I can run through an injury and sometimes I can't. You just have to really listen to your body. I have been able to keep alot of little injuries from turning into big one with massage and my scraping tool. You really have to take care of yourself when you are running high mileage. Like I said before let me know if I can help:)

Andy I do the same thing with injuries time and time again. Just like Josse said sometimes you can train normal through an injury and be fine, sometimes I have to run only easy and then I'm fine and then there is the nasty worst case when you're force to quit running altogether for a while.

You've probably mentioned this before but remind me.. which part of the hamstring (top/middle/bottom) is giving you trouble? I've struggled with high-hamstring tendonitis for years and have never been able to fully remedy the problem but I've found a routine that allows me to run with little or no discomfort.

Tom - It is the high hamstring. I think that it is the same problem that you and Paul are suffering from.

I was afraid you would say that. I know a lot of runners that suffer with this and don't know of anyone yet who has fully overcome it. Paul has been the most diligent of anyone I've seen as far as being willing to mostly bag running altogether and do the rigorous PT. Thing is I know runners who have gone this route but then get the problem right back after they start running.

I tried the PT route once and it helped a little. I guess it was good in that I learned what types of stretches, massage and exercises are good to help with the problem. For me the best thing has been diligent stretching, ball exercises and lifting to help strengthen the hamstring muscles, and improving my form. It turns out this problem actually forced me to improve my form (which is still horrendous) in that I noticed I could run mostly pain free only if I reduced my stride length somewhat and increased my turnover rate so that I'm now more of a shuffle runner with better horizontal movement and less useless vertical.

Anyway I hope you find something workable since you've gotten yourself in peak shape. I'll be watching you and Paul closely to see if you find that magic formula that cures the problem completely.

That scraping stuff sounds a bit scary in it's own right. Andy I think you should be the guinea pig and have Josse do the scraping thing then if it works for you I'll have her come and teach Kim the fine art and we'll get one of those GuaSha thingies and become scraping fools.

Most runners problems comes from lack of flexablity. We tend to ignore this until we get hurt and then we have to pay a pt or doc of some sort to teach us how to strech and we do it until we are better and then stop. I have found over the past 6 months that keeping up my streching routine has helped me a great deal. I do 15-30 mins every day of streching. This too I would be willing to show anyone how to do, because it needs to be done properly for it to work right. I do know Paul was shown streches and does them.

What Tom you don't what to be the guinea pig!?! Come on it is not that bad. Everyone I have done it on has seen improvement and for the most part is over there injuries with 2-3 treatments. This isn't always the case, it took me about 10 treatment to get over the tendonitis in my calf last summer. But I saw improvement after each treatment.

We're supposed to be stretching? I never stretch and am horribly inflexible. Maybe now that I am getting old I need to realize that I'm not indestructible and be more proactive about taking care of myself.

Yes, When I was in massage school when I was 19 my Russian massage teacher told me I had the flexiblity of an old man. It was then I started stretching more. Some times I am better than others but I always go back to it.
