Personal:

I am originally from Knoxville, TN and moved to SLC with Jake in 2010. I started racing in 2011 and had some great success before a major injury hit me in July 2012. I had athletic pubalgia surgery in May 2013...then again in Sept 2014 and am still trying to get back to my old self. Although running is my true passion, I love doing pretty much anything active outdoors - backcountry skiing, backpacking, biking, etc.

I've been running for the Saucony Team since 2011. I enjoy representing the brand and really do believe they make the best shoes :)

I work as a Quality Engineer for BD Medical in Sandy.

Day off. Yesterday did me in with the 6 miler followed by too many hours of standing/walking. Went for a walk later in the evening with my parents after a full day of rest. Got lots of lectures this weekend about how I shouldn't run anymore because of the surgery. Frustrating. I also managed to get a "compliment" about how much better I looked - have I gained weight? Seriously the worst question you could ask an injured runner.

Have they started suggesting assisted living facilities for you?

From Andrea on Mon, Aug 26, 2013 at 08:29:22 from 72.37.171.52

Nope. I still just don't get how telling someone to stop exercising is socially acceptable but telling someone that they NEED to exercise is not.

Take it as a compliment. I know I'm getting really fit when non running friends and co-workers start asking about my health.

From Amiee on Mon, Aug 26, 2013 at 09:23:39 from 155.98.164.38

Ha ha! A particular co-worker of mine commented on how much I have been eating lately. I love how it is socially acceptable to comment on a skinny person's food intake, but not on a non-skinny person's. Please explain that one too!

Don't let it get you down. Hard to live up to the standards that Paula Dean has set for that part of the country.

Hopefully whoever said that will apologize, or they can subtract one name from the list for the wedding in October.

And I probably shouldn't have said that second part but it just gets me really MAD when they don't support you!!!

It definitely seems like as soon as there is an injury, people like to jump on the "that's why you shouldn't run" train. Don't let it keep you down.

I loved when an ex-boyfriend told me that I looked a lot better with an extra 10 pounds. Apparently, I was way too skinny to him at running weight. (Note the ex in ex-boyfriend) Do what makes you happy, and remember that there's lots of people right here on this blog that understand the ups and downs of being a runner. Keep at it, Andrea. It's all going to pay off.

Andrea-People who don't understand running don't understand runners, and vice versa! You are to young and to talented to stop running, your best races are just a head of you so stay strong! I am 50 years old and I just had to pull out of the St George marathon because of injury, but it gives me even more resolve for next year! Don't let them get you down and if all else fails just do what I do and give them the finger:) JK JK... I need to becareful or Sasha will lock me out of the blog.

Happy running.

That is frustrating. You definitely have your best running days ahead of you, and I am certain your parents/family will be very proud of your future achievements.

Parents/family usually mean well, even if they're misguided. Try not to let it bother you.

And... um Im just gunna put it out there. Seen some relatively recent pictures of you and Im not sure where you hid that extra weight!
