Personal:

I am originally from Knoxville, TN and moved to SLC with Jake in 2010. I started racing in 2011 and had some great success before a major injury hit me in July 2012. I had athletic pubalgia surgery in May 2013...then again in Sept 2014 and am still trying to get back to my old self. Although running is my true passion, I love doing pretty much anything active outdoors - backcountry skiing, backpacking, biking, etc.

I've been running for the Saucony Team since 2011. I enjoy representing the brand and really do believe they make the best shoes :)

I work as a Quality Engineer for BD Medical in Sandy.

Anyone want to get together for a New Years Eve run on Saturday?

Hey, I just finished your book recommendation (Which comes first: Cardio or Weights?) and it was indeed a very informative book. I took many notes and kept calling my husband in to read parts to him. I like the way he approached it all, and when he would admit that there just is not an answer!

I can't. I work. Going long tomorrow, looking for company.

so cardio or weights, which is it? I hate weight lifting so I sure hope it is about CARDIO!!!

It is whatever you want it to be (or, I should say, whatever your focus is). That was the gist of that question, anyway. But the book answers MANY more. It is GOOD.

I'm interested in the New Years Eve run, keep me posted.

Kelli - I'm glad you liked the book. So many interesting nuggets of information in there - I feel like I need to re-read it already! The author's blog is one of our favorites and you learn something new and interesting every day from it: http://sweatscience.com

How about a PM run? Anytime after 6:45 pm. : D. Was thinking 11pm but some people are normal and actually do other things then run on New Year's Eve ; D.

I just checked it out from the library, but I think I may have to buy it. It would be good to read now and then as a reminder of what I am doing right and WRONG.

Thanks for sharing his blog, I will definitely look at that often! I would love to meet him. He seems to have a good sense of humor on top of being very smart. Is he an athlete of any sort?

From Jake K on Fri, Dec 30, 2011 at 16:14:39 from 155.100.226.54

He was a middle distance runner and competed on some Canadian national teams... 3:42 1500m, 13:52 5000m ... so he obviously can talk the talk AND walk the walk!

I thought he was a runner, he seemed to talk about running the most in the book (which I liked!) Looking at his website right now....very cool.

LOVE the VO2 max information that I TOTALLY RELATE to (as all of us probably do, except bionic BRAINS that don't perceive workload as hard as many runners do). I honestly think that despite all my many follies that came into play at SGM (ie new socks, lack of sleep for a week) I had somewhat of a PANIC attack thinking in my head HOW HARD it was GOING to get that I could not "at THAT moment" get it together again. I needed a YOGA moment to relax. Obviously not in oxygen debt as I was able to pick it up for the last three miles. THE MIND is powerful. This info is good for me so I can try to visualize my next marathon as getting easier and not harder. I do this by taking it easier in the beginning not running 6:20s in a marathon!! : D. Any advice for Boston, Jake? I am not sure what I am capable of there. I was born in Massachusetts so it would be nice to try and do my best there in front of all my extended family and friends!!

Julie - Boston is on my mind a lot right now since I am going to help Rachelle come up with a training plan. I'm sure she and I will pass along any good nuggets of information. It can be a fast course if the weather cooperates (like last year!).
