Personal:

I am originally from Knoxville, TN and moved to SLC with Jake in 2010. I started racing in 2011 and had some great success before a major injury hit me in July 2012. I had athletic pubalgia surgery in May 2013...then again in Sept 2014 and am still trying to get back to my old self. Although running is my true passion, I love doing pretty much anything active outdoors - backcountry skiing, backpacking, biking, etc.

I've been running for the Saucony Team since 2011. I enjoy representing the brand and really do believe they make the best shoes :)

I work as a Quality Engineer for BD Medical in Sandy.

AM - Woke up at 6am and didn't feel like getting up, so slept another 40 minutes. So, I only had time for the horsepark loop. Not really that upset about it; sleep seemed more important! Plus, long run tomorrow is going to be LONG!!

I was surprised how chilly is was this morning - I almost wanted gloves. I don't want summer to go away and cold weather to come yet!

PM - 3.6 miles near Wolf Mountain ski area, easy. Going to run somewhere between 16-20 tomorrow. I've never run more than 17 before and can't decide how much to do! Any thoughts?

Sometimes you just need 10-11 hours of sleep!

From Lily on Fri, Sep 02, 2011 at 11:33:30 from 67.199.178.210

It was chillier this morning. Awesome you got some extra sleep!

I felt the same way this morning Andrea. I was really wishing I had some gloves. :( So not looking forward to freezing cold runs.

No one is looking forward to this? --> https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/3k3IwVa1DDz8EZc--bkCkg?feat=directlink

Usually I'm itching to get on snow by this point, but this year I'd rather it just stayed unseasonably warm for the next 4 months.

From Andrea on Fri, Sep 02, 2011 at 13:22:49 from 72.37.171.52

I have to admit, it's hard not to get a little fired up with a picture like that! Bottomless powder is the best!!

BUT then once I start thinking about less daylight, freezing, running with completely frozen hands and ice on the streets...yeah I think I could wait a little longer :)

From allie on Fri, Sep 02, 2011 at 14:43:04 from 24.10.191.18

there was definitely a chill in the air this morning, and i didn't like it. if mother nature is fair, she will give us an extended summer to make up for the ridiculously extended winter.

looking forward to going long tomorrow!

From Lily on Fri, Sep 02, 2011 at 16:21:53 from 67.199.178.210

Andrea, that description of winter running just brought back some sweet remembrance. Ugh.

Allie let's hope Mother nature is fair. She was nasty to us this winter/spring.

Jake, awesome pics! How do you feel about running in the freezing temps?

From Jake K on Fri, Sep 02, 2011 at 16:26:57 from 155.100.226.53

IT BUILDS CHARACTER!!!

Honestly its not my favorite, but I'd rather run in freezing temps outside than on the treadmill. We are fortunate to live in an age of very, very good technical clothing. My biggest problem is my hands freezing, regardless of how many layers of gloves and mittens I wear.

After spending 2 winters living at 8000 feet in Central Colorado (where it was negative something EVERY morning for ~3 months), this first winter in SLC wasn't bad at all. I got my mileage in :-)

From Andrea on Fri, Sep 02, 2011 at 16:33:20 from 67.177.21.60

I can't tell you the number of times I told Jake that he and I already have enough character!!

From Lily on Fri, Sep 02, 2011 at 16:36:50 from 67.199.178.210

LOL! Let's all build some character together!

Ok so Jake and Andrea, this last winter in Utah was pretty bad as far as temps. Usually we don't get that cold, nor stay cold for quite that long. So here's to positive thinking that mother nature will be kinder this year and allow some sunny-cold runs this winter. Survivable ones. Also, the best winter runs are up the Provo Canyon trail. So amazing!

Jake-what brand of tech clothing do you opt for in the winter?

From Jake K on Fri, Sep 02, 2011 at 16:43:26 from 155.100.226.53

SAUCONY!!! :-)

Seriously though, before they started giving us shoes, I was already all about Saucony's winter gear b/c of the color. That vizipro orange (with a built-in reflective light) is amazing when you are doing 20 miles a day in the dark. I have an old goretex road runner sports shell that I would also wear when it was precipitating which still works very well. The main thing I found was useful was actually just trying to prove to Andrea that I could and would run outside everyday no matter what :-)

I hope that we get big storm cycles on Wed-Thur every week this winter, and then sunshine and a stable snowpack for the weekends and beginnings of the week! That is probably very wishful thinking.

Is it time to go home from work yet?

From allie on Fri, Sep 02, 2011 at 16:52:09 from 24.10.191.18

i will also jump in and say that it is possible to run outside everyday if you have the right clothing. i stayed warm all winter last year, but sometimes i had to get creative (i.e. wearing a bandana over my face "bank robber" style). freezing hands are my biggest issue as well. i found that hand warmers worked really well inside warm ski mittens.

anyway, all of this is making me cold. luckily it's a beautiful day outside and it's just about time to start labor day weekend! we have at least another two months of awesome running weather ahead.

From Jake K on Fri, Sep 02, 2011 at 16:53:53 from 155.100.226.53

The bank robber bandana is another veteran move that I used a lot last winter.

But yeah, I'm glad I don't have to wear a shirt for a while longer!

From JulieC on Sat, Sep 03, 2011 at 07:09:41 from 70.56.108.128

if you have to break out the ski goggles you know you are really a trooper in the cold/flying snow running...with the addition of the bank robber style bandana. Okay I ONLY did that once. I also have the 80s style neck warmer in pink. I lost my leg warmers.
