Personal:

I am originally from Knoxville, TN and moved to SLC with Jake in 2010. I started racing in 2011 and had some great success before a major injury hit me in July 2012. I had athletic pubalgia surgery in May 2013...then again in Sept 2014 and am still trying to get back to my old self. Although running is my true passion, I love doing pretty much anything active outdoors - backcountry skiing, backpacking, biking, etc.

I've been running for the Saucony Team since 2011. I enjoy representing the brand and really do believe they make the best shoes :)

I work as a Quality Engineer for BD Medical in Sandy.

AM - Shuffle-run just until I could manage a semi-normal stride. My quad muscles are really sore at the inner knee which makes running really awkward. Worked on some hip strengthening Myrtle Exercises then yoga for 20 minutes. Planning to do more mileage this afternoon, hopefully more graceful.

PM - 5.6 miles in the Sugarhouse area. Feeling a little better - soreness should be mostly gone by tomorrow.

I analyzed the SLC Half course with Utah Valley Half to see how they compare. SLC has 260ft uphill and 808ft downhill, UV has 168 uphill and 854 downhill. So my time of 1:18:13 on Saturday is about equivalent to a 1:17:38 at UV (based on Runworks calculator). I know these calculators aren't super accurate, but they do enable some sort of comparison between courses. This definitely makes me feel better because it means that I'm in equivalent shape, if not better, than I was in June last year :)

Congrats on your race on Sat. The pics are great and the pics from yesterday have me salivating for some spring mountaineering.

Scott we are thinking of doing a ridge run or something cool on sunday. I know that isn't always a great day for people b/c of family commitments, but we were thinking of going up to Cardiff Peak and then working the ridge all the way to Wolverine or something cool like that

I know it's only one data point, but last year I was like 4 mins faster at Utah Valley. Also, Brad was over 3 mins slower. So you are in 1:14-1:15 shape right now :)

That's great news! See - your patience is really starting to pay off.

Okay, hold up...so UVM is a faster half than SLC? I really wouldn't have thought so myself. I've only run the full course, but those last 13 miles certainly didn't seem easier than SLC half. I love SLC because it seems like the most downhill (without killer grade) race around. This really surprises me. Interesting.

Glad to see you taking some much deserved shuffle/rest time :) You certainly earned it on Saturday!!

UVM is definitely a much faster course. Part of it is the timing of the hills. UVM's only significant hill is before 5K, then you are just cruising on some gentle downhill. SLC's hill is at 12.5 miles, the worst possible point! :-)

It probably didn't seem quite as easy after running all those rolling hills up at the top of Provo Canyon during the full marathon :-)

I bet you are in faster shape than last year right now. Lucky girl you! Sometimes getting hurt actually brings people back stronger. You're strong, love strong-ness! :)
