Personal:

I am originally from Knoxville, TN and moved to SLC with Jake in 2010. I started racing in 2011 and had some great success before a major injury hit me in July 2012. I had athletic pubalgia surgery in May 2013...then again in Sept 2014 and am still trying to get back to my old self. Although running is my true passion, I love doing pretty much anything active outdoors - backcountry skiing, backpacking, biking, etc.

I've been running for the Saucony Team since 2011. I enjoy representing the brand and really do believe they make the best shoes :)

I work as a Quality Engineer for BD Medical in Sandy.

AM - Ran some easy loops around horsepark with Jake. Loved the mild temperature this morning (even with the wind)! I really hope we get a long spring this year.

PM - 35 min on the bike, easy.

Just booked a work trip to Brazil yesterday. Leaving March 16 and returning April 2 for a total of 17 days! Juiz de Fora, Rio de Janeiro, and Sao Paulo. Hopefully I'll get a little time to explore and do some sightseeing while I am down there. Average temperatures are high 78 and low 60 - hard to beat that! Now I have to work on finding someone I am working with down there that I can run with outside! There is a university close-by in Juiz, so hopefully that area will be safe enough for running outside as well.

Glad you decided to do that. Sounds like a great opportunity.

That is really cool Andrea! I hope that you enjoy it there and find some running buddies. Take lots of pictures.

I am so excited for you! I have always wanted to go there. Someday I will darn it!

Jealous, My sister was just got back from Sao Paolo after being there for a couple months (for a boy, eye roll!). She had a great time. She's not a runner but maybe she'll have some suggestions for running down there

From Andrea on Tue, Mar 06, 2012 at 09:38:19 from 72.37.244.100

Nate - let me know if she has any good suggestions for attractions, things to see, places to eat, etc!

Oh man, you're 1 month to early. I'm going to Sao Paulo in May and am really worried about finding a place to run and someone to run with.

Be very careful, and make sure you run with someone.

very cool. that should be an awesome experience.

Rob - change your trip to March!!! There are actually a lot of races down there...maybe I'll use one of those so I can run outside safely.

Ooooh sounds so exciting! I am thinking that Jake will have his first 300 mile week while you are gone - who will reign him in?

From Jake K on Tue, Mar 06, 2012 at 11:35:44 from 155.100.226.54

Its good timing - b/c its right before Boston so I can't do anything stupid - I'll have self-restraint. If she did the trip in the middle of the summer when I had no big races coming up and I was just doing base training, then it would be trouble! :-)

From Tara on Tue, Mar 06, 2012 at 14:17:18 from 75.169.154.165

That sounds like so much fun!!!!! Maybe the Brazillians have some cure for running injuries or some special tricks for you to try:) Maybe a trip is all you need to relax and come back in running form ready to go!

From Tara on Tue, Mar 06, 2012 at 14:18:31 from 75.169.154.165

Maybe, just maybe there are too many maybe's and not enough absolutes. So have an absolutely fun time:D

Enjoy your trip and I hope the trip provides some magic water to help heal those feet!

Hi Andrea-

This is what my sister had to say. Hope it's of some use

"I'm not such a great tour guide but these are some of the main attractions here: Avenida Paulista (one of the most famous avenues in Brazil ), MASP (museum on same avenue), Ibirapuera park, bars & music at a town called Vila Madalena, Muncipal Theatre, the next 4 are very close to each other: Lingua Portuguesa Museum, Luz Station, Sala Sao Paulo, & Museu da Resisitencia. Also, downtown is an interesting experience and there are many old/beautiful buildings/churches to see. (it's a bit rougher downtown though, so just pay attention a little extra) Hope this helps! Let me know if you need anything else"
