Personal:

I am originally from Knoxville, TN and moved to SLC with Jake in 2010. I started racing in 2011 and had some great success before a major injury hit me in July 2012. I had athletic pubalgia surgery in May 2013...then again in Sept 2014 and am still trying to get back to my old self. Although running is my true passion, I love doing pretty much anything active outdoors - backcountry skiing, backpacking, biking, etc.

I've been running for the Saucony Team since 2011. I enjoy representing the brand and really do believe they make the best shoes :)

I work as a Quality Engineer for BD Medical in Sandy.

AM - I was going to meet up with Allie for a run/walk, but I bailed because 1) it was pouring and 2) I must've done something weight training yesterday to cause havoc on my hip area today. So elliptical was the safe bet...I started a more difficult and longer session today, but it turns out 35 minutes was my limit without much pain. I just don't know what to do anymore...I've really tried to do everything right. I took off for 6 weeks...I've been working on core work, hip strengthening, weight training....I had cortisone injections, diagnostic tests, PT, ART....seriously, what's left?

smart move this morning.

you *have* done everything right. you have been very diligent about rest, recovery, cross training, and all sorts of rehab methods. nothing is more frustrating than a nagging injury with no explanation. ugh, it makes me so sad for you and i really hope things start turning around soon. good news is on the way, good news is on the way...

maybe we can get hannah to bring back a hip healing wand from harry potter land?

From Rachelle on Tue, Sep 25, 2012 at 09:53:00 from 199.190.170.21

So sorry Andrea! I think the thing that makes it most frustrating is that you have done everything right. (most of us don't.) You have been so smart and diligent and really just deserve some answers. :(

I second the hip healing wand idea.

I'm going to have to bribe Hannah somehow to fix me...even if it takes going to her Happy Potter Land bachelorette party. What a nerd.

From Jake K on Tue, Sep 25, 2012 at 10:38:22 from 155.100.226.191

We already gave her a jeep - isn't that enough of a bribe?!?

OH Andrea.:( So sorry. Prayers are with you.

And prayers for the Hannah wand thing too:)

I want in! For hip healing magic that is. But seriously... I don't know what else you are willing to try, but I talked to my PT about you the other day and I think he is worth a shot.

I'm sorry. I think I understand how you feel.

Just a suggestion. But try TOTAL rest. No elliptical, no weight training, or biking. Nothing. Don't do anything and see how you feel in 6 more weeks. I know it sounds hard, but total rest is a healer for sure.

From DaleG on Wed, Sep 26, 2012 at 18:24:23 from 152.216.3.5

I second what Lily said.

From Andrea on Wed, Sep 26, 2012 at 19:11:39 from 67.177.11.154

Honestly, I do not believe that complete rest is a good solution for most injuries. There is a ton of research that suggests that active recovery encourages and enhances recovery as opposed to complete rest. For example, think about an ankle sprain or ACL surgery. If you don't mobilize that joint and encourage movement, it will not heal properly for the activity you are trying to get back to (the same is true for tendonitis and stress fractures). That's what physical therapy is for...the people that take physical therapy and strengthening protocols seriously are the ones that get back to the sport faster and are less prone to injury later on.

I do agree that there is a short period (onset of the injury) where complete rest is necessary. However, I have done several periods of complete rest (of the hip/hamstring area).

I get where you guys are coming from, I just think that I need to find a solution that not only allows me to be pain-free while sedentary, but pain free while being physically active.

Excellent point. In that case, keep doing what you are doing. I sure hope you can get healed up soon.

Here is a supplement I have really started using everyday, both while running and afterwards. This could be helpful to you as well as it helps repair soft tissue within the body

I take 2 caps right before a run, or any other training. Then 2 more caps a few hours later. Then 2 more caps in the late afternoon.
