Personal:

I am originally from Knoxville, TN and moved to SLC with Jake in 2010. I started racing in 2011 and had some great success before a major injury hit me in July 2012. I had athletic pubalgia surgery in May 2013...then again in Sept 2014 and am still trying to get back to my old self. Although running is my true passion, I love doing pretty much anything active outdoors - backcountry skiing, backpacking, biking, etc.

I've been running for the Saucony Team since 2011. I enjoy representing the brand and really do believe they make the best shoes :)

I work as a Quality Engineer for BD Medical in Sandy.

AM - I was able to find a treadmill that had incline and worked at higher speeds! I set the incline to 1.0 and warmed up for 2.4 miles. Then I ran a 20:00 5K tempo, 6:26 pace. It felt hard, probably as much mentally as it was physically. Treadmill running feels a lot more difficult to me for some reason, but I was still glad to get in some faster running this morning (did I really run a marathon at this pace only 4 months ago?). Cooled down for a total of 5.9 miles.

PM - Ran 2.9 miles on the treadmill very easy - had to run after dinner again tonight.

Nice job this morning - the first couple tempos will feel hard, regardless of the pace and distance (ie. they might be short and slow, and they still won't feel great). But you'll adapt to the stimulus quickly after a couple sessions and start to get back in the groove. I did a 2 mile tempo in January at 5:20+ pace and I thought the same thing - how am I ever even going to run a 10K at this pace again? And then with time it starts to click. Training is science, art, and faith. Its difficult to quantify the significance of the art and faith, but their role is huge.

Yes, YOU DID RUN THAT PACE! You are amazing. TM running for me is so much harder. I know a lot people like it b/c you can dial into a specific pace, but honestly running 6:26 (or probably faster) pace outside would have seemed a LOT easier. Nice workout!

Nice job Andrea!! Jake and Melody are both right and this is definitely a step in the right direction. :)

Nice job, Andrea. Don't you just love running on ancient treadmills?

I'm in agreement on the TM thing. I always think "dang, I did NOT really run this fast for that long!" Keep up the awesome work!

Glad you can keep up the workouts down there, even if it's on rickety treadmills. Great pictures yesterday.

Great job on the tempo, don't sell yourself short, you're pretty dang fast! I've seen your 5k speed and have little doubt you'll reach your sub 17 in the near future.
