Personal:

I am originally from Knoxville, TN and moved to SLC with Jake in 2010. I started racing in 2011 and had some great success before a major injury hit me in July 2012. I had athletic pubalgia surgery in May 2013...then again in Sept 2014 and am still trying to get back to my old self. Although running is my true passion, I love doing pretty much anything active outdoors - backcountry skiing, backpacking, biking, etc.

I've been running for the Saucony Team since 2011. I enjoy representing the brand and really do believe they make the best shoes :)

I work as a Quality Engineer for BD Medical in Sandy.

AM - Horsepark loop again this morning, easy. Slept in 30 minutes accidentally, but still ran so I got to work a little late. Running is more important, right?

Just heard that Lance Armstrong is doing the XTERRA National Championship Triathlon at Snowbasin on 9/24. Pretty cool!

PM - Track Workout! 2-2-4-4-8-4-8-4-8-4-4 with 200m jog between reps. 200s in 41, 400s in ~1:22 (5:28 pace), 800s in ~2:49 (5:38 pace). Ran the 200s and thought this is not going to be fun. It turned out not as bad as I thought it was going to be. I'm still not a fan of track work though!

Take XTerra off your race calendar! :-) I just need to completely get it out of my head and not think about it anymore.

It would be fun to go up and watch Lance do the triathlon. Although you are supposed to have to qualify for the XTerra Tri... I guess Lance gets a waiver on that?

I love those short distance pyramid track workouts - they feel so natural for me. I wish there was more of a community for track runners like there is for road racing. I would certainly choose 800,1500,3000 distances over the longer ones. Too big of a gap in quality of competition between your local runner and the professional runners.

Erik - I think a lot of folks who run road races would actually really benefit from doing some shorter races on the track... Andrea and I are hoping to get something like that going in SLC. My vision (dream) is a series of meets during the summer, where the is a chance to run a Mile/800, 3K, etc.

And pyramid workouts rock. Psychologically they feel a lot easier to me than just doing a bunch of 400m reps.

Jake - 100% agree about the pyramid workouts vs. straight reps.

The Wisconsin Track Club here in Madison, WI puts on a series to raise money for their club. They do a good job of mixing up the distance events for each meet and they run the meets on Friday evenings around twilight time. They charge $5.00 for as many events as you want. Problem is they only have 4 meets mid June to mid July (wish they had more). They get a really good turnout though, for example they had to run two heats of the 3000 meter their final meet.
