Personal:

I am originally from Knoxville, TN and moved to SLC with Jake in 2010. I started racing in 2011 and had some great success before a major injury hit me in July 2012. I had athletic pubalgia surgery in May 2013...then again in Sept 2014 and am still trying to get back to my old self. Although running is my true passion, I love doing pretty much anything active outdoors - backcountry skiing, backpacking, biking, etc.

I've been running for the Saucony Team since 2011. I enjoy representing the brand and really do believe they make the best shoes :)

I work as a Quality Engineer for BD Medical in Sandy.

AM - Horsepark loop 4.4 miles easy. No motivation to work today - so anxious for the weekend! The best workout of the training cycle is this afternoon.

PM - 1.5 miles with 2 x 0.25 miles at half marathon pace with equal recovery.

Tracking info here. Below are the splits of my PR - hopefully I'll be faster than that. I only freaked out about running 18:16 5Ks....well since I saw the splits. But I've done it before! :)

you can totally manage those splits and faster -- just remember all of those great workouts and progression runs you've done leading up to this. i think duluth is going to be very kind to both you and jake. good luck. have fun.

PS: i passed your car on the freeway this morning and pulled a face and a wave. turns out it was an old guy with white hair and not you at all. whoops.

It is impossible to focus at work before a big race. I definitely struggling with that last week.

I am getting very excited for you guys! How cool is it that you'll be toeing the line with some of the best runners in the country. Trust in your training, run hard and have fun and enjoy the experience. Best of luck!

You can do this! Remember, you are a 16 minute 5ker, so 18:16s won't seem hard at all.

Looking forward to seeing what you can do with that super fast crowd. As you've experienced before, something magical happens in a race when all of a sudden running faster seems easier. You are going to do great!

You can so do this! It is going to be very exciting. Just realized that I have to get up at 5:25 am to watch the live tracking... and I will :)

good luck to you and Jake this weekend - you two are the only "Utahns" on the entry list - i can't imagine better representation!

I'm so excited for your race! I grew up in MN and Grandma's was THE race to run back then. It was so fun and exciting to see all the locals. I'm assuming you'll fly in MPLS/ST Paul - so on the way from the city to Duluth, stop at Toby's bakery. They have amazing cinnamon rolls (or at least they were amazing when I was kid). AND they always use to have awesome mini donuts at the end of the race! Enjoy and go kick some trash!
