Personal:

I am originally from Knoxville, TN and moved to SLC with Jake in 2010. I started racing in 2011 and had some great success before a major injury hit me in July 2012. I had athletic pubalgia surgery in May 2013...then again in Sept 2014 and am still trying to get back to my old self. Although running is my true passion, I love doing pretty much anything active outdoors - backcountry skiing, backpacking, biking, etc.

I've been running for the Saucony Team since 2011. I enjoy representing the brand and really do believe they make the best shoes :)

I work as a Quality Engineer for BD Medical in Sandy.

I can't decide if I want to run the Draper Days 5k on Saturday. I wasn't planning to do it because of my back pain. But running doesn't seem to affect the pain (unless I heel strike); it's just the sitting. I've been stretching and doing core 3x a day, sitting on the exercise ball, etc. and I'm optimistic that all of that is making a difference. So anyway, I know that I'm not in 5K shape - the last 5 weeks has been cross training and minimal running with no speed work. It would be interesting to see where I am, but I also know it won't be a best performance by any means. I'm thinking about approaching it as a tempo workout - not sure if it's worth it. Anyone have thoughts?

PM - 2 miles warm-up. 6 x 200 w/200 jog in between. Hit all around 40s. I could definitely tell that I hadn't moved my legs that fast in a while!

I have a thought! :) I hurt my low back in January, kept running on it, and a few days later ended up with severe pirformis syndrome and a slight herniated disc. Be careful out there girl. You are amazing and it would be awful to see you get a full blown injury over a race. Even if you only tempo ran.

Just listen to your body. (Says the girl training through a strained achilles!) If I were you I would probably hold off on this one and run the armed forces 5k on August 7. There is double the money, and it gives you a few more weeks to increase your fitness and get your back healed. I'm running Draper, but will probably be doing so on some dead legs.

Says the girl who did HILL REPEATS on a strained achilles this morning!!! :-)

In all seriousness, Emily - you and Andrea are my cross training heroes! See you on Saturday.

Thanks for the input. I'm going to stick to my original plan of not running this weekend. No need for me to rush into anything at this point! However, I plan on taking lots of pictures during the race so I'll try to get good ones of everyone I know!
