Personal:

I am originally from Knoxville, TN and moved to SLC with Jake in 2010. I started racing in 2011 and had some great success before a major injury hit me in July 2012. I had athletic pubalgia surgery in May 2013...then again in Sept 2014 and am still trying to get back to my old self. Although running is my true passion, I love doing pretty much anything active outdoors - backcountry skiing, backpacking, biking, etc.

I've been running for the Saucony Team since 2011. I enjoy representing the brand and really do believe they make the best shoes :)

I work as a Quality Engineer for BD Medical in Sandy.

AM - 60 min spin class followed by one mile of running. My back seems to tighten up within 5 minutes of starting to run, even after the spinning.

I'm starting to get frustrated about continually gaining weight...I know I'm not running right now, but I'm still exercising for at least 90 min every day and feel like I'm working harder than just running. Not a big deal - ups and downs are normal anyways. I was just so consistent during the marathon training that I'm used to being the same every day. As long as I can run while I'm in Tennessee (because no cross training there)...

PM - 50 min total cardio: 20 min upright bike, 10 min stairmaster, 10 min elliptical, 10 min recumbent bike.  Obviously I get bored really quickly in the gym.

Great article about GPS watches and their accuracy.

Gaining weight can be incredibly frustrating but you have to remember that it is not really realistic to maintain your marathon weight all year long. I have always heard that it is better to train at a little higher weight to avoid injury anyway. Plus it is probably because of all the muscle you've been gaining with the weight training. :D

I've heard the same thing echoed from tons of coaches, Rachelle. Its impossible to maintain "race weight" year round, otherwise you end up sick and injured all the time (ie. Dathan Ritzenhein)

I hate picking on him, but he's just the first example that popped into my head

Rachelle - yes, I agree. I'm hoping to stay around 117-118 (I was 114-115 during marathon training). I just get anxious when I start seeing the climb! But I will say, my upper body is starting to look a little less scrawny :o)

Pretty soon you'll be able to wear arm warmers and they won't slip off! :-)

Quite possibly the most obsessive person in the world about numbers, Lance Armstrong, would train at around 160 pounds but raced closer to 150.

Only a runner would worry about gaining 4 pounds. Nice cross training!

Ditto to all of these comments ... you can lose 5 lbs your first two weeks back to training again ... it is no big deal (and according to actuaries is more healthy anyway ;-))

winter time is an automatic weight gain time....hibernation mode....our bodies know we need to stay warm so just think of it as fuel for the freezing outdoor temps :D
