Personal:

I am originally from Knoxville, TN and moved to SLC with Jake in 2010. I started racing in 2011 and had some great success before a major injury hit me in July 2012. I had athletic pubalgia surgery in May 2013...then again in Sept 2014 and am still trying to get back to my old self. Although running is my true passion, I love doing pretty much anything active outdoors - backcountry skiing, backpacking, biking, etc.

I've been running for the Saucony Team since 2011. I enjoy representing the brand and really do believe they make the best shoes :)

I work as a Quality Engineer for BD Medical in Sandy.

AM - 20 minutes on the recumbent bike, felt okay-ish. Yoga for 15 minutes.

PM - Weight training 30 minutes.

Got back the spine MRI results....basically, nothing. If we had done an MRI on my hip like I asked (because the pain is in my hip) maybe I would already have a diagnosis. That plus the fact that I had to go get the results from the diagnostic center myself because my doctor is too busy to call and tell me the results mean that 1) he is going to get an earful from me 2) I'm getting a new doctor and 3) I am not fun to be around right now.

Update: Matt Poulsen (part of Scott's 5am crew) is an orthopedic surgeon and quite the runner. After a desperate plea for help, he was more than happy to see me tomorrow. He is awesome!!! I should've gone to him in the first place :)

I was hoping I'd just pop on and get to see the results without having to wait. stink. Fingers crossed! Especially that he doesn't request a Pelvis one now...

So Sorry!!! If doctors could only listen to the Patient this world would be a much happier place.

Hang in there!

stink, stink, stinky stink, stink. Please feel free to give him an earful :) like you need MY permission, but I've got your back!

Matt is a fantastic guy! Good luck. Tell him that he needs to work on his love-handles.

Maybe you've tried this, maybe not. My wife constantly has hip pain, especially after running. The PT showed us how to put it back into place. She lays on her back (on the bed) and then I pull on both legs and put my thumbs next to the bones on the ankle and compare them. Her left leg is the one that's always giving her problems, so when she is in pain, the left left is longer than the right. When it's longer, I push her knee up to her armpit for ten seconds, then she puts her foot on my shoulder and pushes as hard as she can, for 10 seconds, while I lean into it. We repeat that until the legs are even. Sometimes it only takes a minute, sometimes it takes 4 or 5 minutes, depending on how bad it is.

I keep checking in hoping for good news...not today, but soon!

From Andrea on Thu, Sep 06, 2012 at 19:17:12 from 67.177.11.154

RAD - I might have to bring you for support next time!

Clay - I agree completely!

Chad - I had to get Jake to explain this, but I will be sure to ask him now :)

DaleG - I have this done for me at least 3x a day...it does get out of whack every once in a while.

Kam - One of these days....

I am so sorry they are dragging this on for you. But very optimistic that Matt will be able to help. I just have a good feeling about today for you. Good luck and try and enjoy your weekend.

I got a good lesson about the hip this morning on my run with Matt. Hopefully, you'll get to the bottom of this and know what steps to take for a full recovery. Hang in there!!

Yay! I can't wait to hear what you find out with the new doc!!!

From Jake K on Fri, Sep 07, 2012 at 09:33:05 from 155.100.226.191

The problem w/ all of Andrea's other doctors is that they aren't in our running group. Matt has an increased level of built-in accountability - if he doesn't fix her, he runs the risk of me dropping the hammer on him really, really, really hard the next time we run together. :-)

From scottkeate on Fri, Sep 07, 2012 at 09:51:00 from 216.49.181.254

@ Jake - The thing about Matt is he's competitive enough to try to go with you no matter what shape he's in. He tackles everything he does with the same commitment. Andrea's in good hands.

From Rachelle on Fri, Sep 07, 2012 at 10:04:37 from 159.212.71.199

Yay for the good news at the bottom of the post. Good luck with your appointment today Andrea!

From Jake K on Fri, Sep 07, 2012 at 10:04:53 from 155.100.226.191

I know, he's the only person I've ever met who randomly throws down a 5:0X mile in the middle of a long run :-)

From Carina on Fri, Sep 07, 2012 at 11:24:04 from 204.15.86.83

Dr.'s that run are so much better than dr's that don't!! Can't wait to hear what he finds out!!!!
